Members CaptainCoconut
Hey everyone, I'm buying a guitar for my son and after telling some friends about it they suggested I come here for help. So he is 13 and has been playing for 1 year, This will be a surprise and I want to get him something good, Obviously his hands are a bit small and overall I'd prefer a thin neck/body guitar but it's important that it still sounds great. Members Yngtchie Blacksteen
If you're willing to shell out the bucks, then a Music Man Silhouette would be perfect. Small bodies, non-chunky necks that feel great, excellent playability. I'm 22, but I'm tiny, and I love those guitars.Ernie Ball Music Man Silhouette, in the hands of what looks like an average-build male:

Members CaptainCoconut
Thanks guys. I must say the Schecter Gryphon has my attention, so the body on this one is not all that thick? also my son is not really into the metal sound, he prefers classic rock and blues
Members book_of_lies777
Thanks guys. I must say the Schecter Gryphon has my attention, so the body on this one is not all that thick? It's very comfortable to play and sounds great - I really enjoyed it when I played it. I don't own it, but I certainly would not hesitate to buy one, if I was guitar shopping. plus, at your son's age, he's getting ready to start growing QUICK. a short scale guitar might seem like a toy in a year... I was always the smallest, shortest guy in school... by the time I graduated I was 6'1".
Members Grantus
Fender Mustang might also work. 24" scale
Members milosch
Interesting. I'm pretty much average-sized and the LP actually feels a bit small to me.
Members narwhal
The Steinberger "M" type guitars (the ones with the wood bodies), are nice, but expensive. The lower-end models have the same dimensions, but have a wooden neck, rather than composite. http://www.musicyo.com/product_specs.asp?pf_id=190 They often go for quite a bit less, used, on e-bay.
