Members JModius
I've noticed lately that when I'm playing, I'm really squeezing the heck out of the neck of my guitar with my left hand. Even more so when I'm playing leads. I notice that I really dig in especially with bends and stuff. I was wondering if there are any techniques I could use to lighten my touch up some? I've tried to be conscientious about it, but that just isn't working for me. Any ideas?
Members balthazarr
Just ease up. Concentrate on how you are holding it and the feel will come. I have the same problem, if you can call it that. I noticed I can reduce the picking attack intensity o fthe right hand and the left will kind of follow when I do that. Members JModius
Lighter string gauge? I'm only using 10's. I really don't want to go lighter than that.
Members GM Reszel
I always try to slow it way down and not fight it. I learned something from Leslie West years ago that I still do to this day (in terms of a vibrato/bending excercise). Do bends and vibrato in very, very, slow and even motion. Pick any note, and slowly smear it across and release just as slow, repeat, repeat, repeat. I call these my TV excercises because I can sit in front of the dork box and get some level of practice in. Slowing way down has always helped me to relax a passage - seems like next day even it blazes with more ease and less fight.
Members keNz
Try playing around with your left hand's thumb position. It'll really depend on the dimensions of your hand though.
