Members dilin
Dear all Fender experts, I have 2 JV strats on the local 'bay, one is black, MSN5***** and another is 2TS, MSN6****. Which one is alder, which is poplar? Thank you.

Members tkachuk07
The early ones were poplar. I'm not sure on the exact dates. If you see a MIM std strat with MN6 (that's 1996 production). It doesn't work that way with JV's, MSN6 could be 2003 production or whatever. Maybe if you take the neck off & see if there is a date marked on the heel you could determine the exact production year. I'm not sure when they switched over exactly, if it's 1996, I'm pretty sure it's poplar, 2001 or later probably alder. Somewhere in between they changed. Members stingxnj
You can determine date of manufacture for JVs under the pickguard. Poplar was used for the first few years of production then all were and continue to be alder.
