Members J.L.C.
On my LP In any switch position, I get some hum even through a clean channel, until I touch the bridge, tailpiece, strings or pup covers. Once I touch something metal its gone. Does that mean I have a grounding problem? Any way to diagnose where that problem might be and how I could fix 'er? Members natasmi
Normal, if it did not go away when you touched the metal it would mean that the bridge does not have a ground wire going to it.
Members moctzal
That sounds like a grounding issue. I'm no expert, I'm sure more knowledgable forumites will chime in.
Members sxyryan
I am pretty sure thats just part of an electric guitar? Every guitar I have ever played is that way?
Members samuraiBSD
Sounds like a ground issue, yeah...it's not normal, because my Les Paul and Strat don't do it, and I've heard guitars with faulty ground wiring doing that.
Members billythegoat
If you are sitting right in front of some sort of electronic device or in a heavily lit room it will hum/buzz more than normal.
Members Dann-O
for a quick fix run a wire from the bridge to one of you pots. that should eliminate it if that does it later you can do it underneath for the same effect.
Members natasmi
Once again, normal. I've worked on guitars for over 20 years and one of the way's I cheak for proper ground is to turn up the amp and make sure the hum go's away when I touch the string's. Different pickups , different hum level, but if you turn up your amp even with humbucker's, and don't touch any metal, you will hear hum. Touch the strings or the bridge or the tuning posts, and it reduces greatly. If it hums all the time no matter what, your bridge is not grounded. Just think about it for a minute and you will understand.
Members J.L.C.
Thanks guys This was my first time cranking up the new (to me) LP. I'm relatively close to the computer monitor as well, which is probably a major source.
Members rock-lobster
it's not an issue. it's an annoyance that occurs on pretty much every guitar. i hate it.
