Members bmast160
Why is the pickup pole piece for the D string on a strat higher than the others but on a telecaster it is not...im assuming its to get more volume out of that string but why that one and why isnt it like that on the tele... i have a american deluxe strat and tele and on the tele it seems like the d string is a little quiter than the other strings so i lowered the saddle a little to get closer to the pickup and the string sits a little lower than the others now. Members Johnny Z
I don't really think it matters much anymore but way back when they were first making Strats someone thought the strings needed balanced poles for better string responce. The answer was to raise or lower the poles to match string output. As strings got better it didn't seem necessary but it kind of caught on. Today it's mostly a vibe thing. Not all Strat pups are staggered and I think thats one way Fender knows which pups are in what guitar.
Members DaleH
Teleacasters traditionaly had flat pole pieces. You don't mess with tradition .
