Members briansr
im talking vintage es-125/es-150/es-300 style guitar any cheaper decent alternatives.. ive seen the harmony monterrey, i saw a 60s gretsch on ebay also.. can anyone comment on that?.. or any other suggestions? i dont care much for cosmetics.. basically i want a vintage archtop with p90, or any different pickup like the charlie christian, or a tv jones... could be a single cut away model also.. so go ahead and recomend (looking for alternatives.. my budget is around 500, but if it goes for less then its better, just looking for a good archtop regardless the market value)

Members Wulver
You might try a humbucker-sized P-90 in there, might help you get a better "vintage" sound out of that Zephyr. Actually, I'm rather interested in those as well, basically as a poor man's ES-175. How much do those tend to go for used?

Members iansmitchell
Oh...Only vintage, the zehyrs go for $500 new btw, really good deal for what ya get, and there's literally thousands of options that fit a standard humbucker routing, not even considering coil splits or series wiring. Plus, add a bridge pickup if ya want. :poke:

Members docjeffrey
Epiphone Riviera -- they are from the '60s, but they were not very popular so you can find them for reasonable $$ If you really want something unique in terms of tone, get a 12 stringer. This one is on ebay at the moment: http://cgi.ebay.com/GIBSON-MADE-1965-EPIPHONE-RIVIERA-CHERRY-RED-VINTAGE_W0QQitemZ110292274828QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item110292274828&_trkparms=72%3A1205|39%3A1|66%3A2|65%3A12|240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

Members aclarke
Just to make sure I've got this right: You're looking for an archtop, non-cutaway, with pickup, and vintage. Under $500 is a little optimistic, but if I've got that right, check this: National New Yorker http://www.digimart.net/inst_detail.do?instrument_id=DS00286982 National had a few archtops in their range, and they tend to be fairly under the radar at this point. The one in the link was sold for about $900, but I've seen other (road worn) National archtops in the low $600 range. I think they put out at least 4 archtop models. Also check into Guild, Vox, Hoyer, .. anything on this page should do it, really: http://www.musikkeller.com/gb/arch.html

Members Tweedledee
Check out the Guild X-50. Sometimes you can snag a beat up 60s one for around $500 if you're patient and watch eBay, though they usually sell in the $700-$1000 range depending on the condition. This one went for $425, but that's pretty rare. http://cgi.ebay.com/Guild-1964-X-50-X50-Vintage-Elec-Guitar-No-Reserve_W0QQitemZ290260935271
