Members conuvial
FTC investigates Fender, Gibson, and others on illegally blocking retailers from discounting their goods. "Companies receiving subpoenas from the FTC include some of the best-known in the $7.5 billion musical-instrument business, lawyers say. They include Fender Musical Instruments Corp., Yamaha Corp., Gibson Musical Instruments Corp. and the Tascam unit of TEAC Corp., as well as retailer Guitar Center Inc." http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122472033433560649.html?mod=googlenews_wsj Think it will do any good? Members axepilot
Think it will do any good? Nope. Gibson, in particular, is infamous for it's dealer authorizations and posted minimum pricing. I think the FTC has their hands full with much larger messes than to give instrument pricing more than passing lip service.
Members Tweedledee
I actually heard about this on NPR this morning, which I thought was kind of funny. Maybe they'll force Gibson and Fender to honor those 20% off MusiciansFriend sales that they're normally excluded from. :D

Members aenemated
apple, i know, does the same thing. and this is GOOD for smaller retailers in that it doesn't allow bigger box operations to use their higher volume of sales power to squeeze smaller businesses. this is a tactic wal-mart has used for years to strongarm suppliers to get those ALWAYS LOW PRICES. this is more govt. pandering to our corporate gods. hooray.
