Members Tommy Van Dyke
I recently acquired a satriani js-600 (the hardtail version with p90s:love:) and I love the way she plays and sounds but she just won't stay in tune for me. I think its the cheap stock ibanez tuners. Would getting a set of locking Schallers do the trick and finally make me not have to retune the guitar after every song I play? Maybe there are other tuning stability suggestions out there. In case it matters, I tune the high e string to a g (I didn't adjust the intonation for this, and for some reason this string stays in tune, it is really just the b and g strings that keep going either sharp or flat)
Members guitargod0dmw
Do you have new strings on it? When was the last time the guitar had a setup? How is the nut? New tuners aren't going to compensate for a poorly setup guitar with a poorly cut nut...with old strings.
Members Tommy Van Dyke
The guitar was setup in late august, so that might be a good place to start cause these new england seasons are brutal , the strings are a couple months old
Members nwtsnma
a couple months is pretty old. you should replace the b and g strings with new ones
Members guitargod0dmw
I'd replace the strings and get a setup...as long as the nut is well cut and in decent shape you should be ok. Worse comes to worse, have the tech replace it as the same time...and you should be back in business in no time.
Members p4vl
Replace the strings and stretch the new ones. It's rarely the tuning machines.

Members Pope on a Rope
a couple months is pretty old. you should replace the b and g strings with new ones Might as well change the high and low e strings and also the a and d strings while you're at it. It's very unlikely that your tuners are the problem. Change your strings more often, add a bit of graphite to the nut slots and stretch the new strings until tuning remains stable. Members Fernabulax
buy a bottle of tri-flow from your local bicycle shop - it's liquid teflon for lubricating gears, but works great on nut slots and bridge saddles. try it - it works even on my old teiscos!
