New PRS Amps!

I have seen Derek Trucks a few times over the last year and I think he was using them with the DTB as well as with the Allmans. Sounded fine to me, although Derek could probably plug into a microwave oven and still break hearts. Apparently PRS is using Sewell to produce the amps. Sewell seems to be highly thought of and his amps have a solid reputation. There has been some discussion about these amps over on the The Gear Page.

They're just rebranded Sewells with superinflated price tags.

Fortunately, Sewells are amazing. Unfortunately, the used prices of the originals are bound to skyrocket now. :^(

last time i checked they were already pretty high lol oh well.

but yeah they are kinda ugly. Looks like the inside of a whiskey barrel.

I emailed Doug Sewell a while back regarding low watt amps. This was his response:

"Sewell Amps has gone into dormancy, and I've take the position as Senior Amp Designer with PRS Guitars. We'll be doing 4 models based on Sewell Amp designs, but only in 50 and 100 watt versions initially. I'll be pushing for low powered amps in the lineup as fast as we can."
