Members elsupermanny14
Hey guys. So I have heard many things like "active pickups create their own sound," or "active pickups all sound the same regardless of guitar." Is this true? Does the wood a body is made out of affect the tone of the guitar if you're running an active pickup setup? If you were to put active pickups into an alder guitar and then the same setup into a basswood guitar or plywood change your tone if you're running active pickups? Thanks guys! Members vexed73
Active pickups sound a little different depending on guitar just like other pickups. More importantly than wood though is the type of amp you use. I have had EMGs that sound great with amps and like ass with others. If you can I would try some out with the amp you want to use before buying. I am using a line 6 flextone III and it works best with vintage out put pickups. the Carvin Bel Air and Mesa Nomad sound great with EMGs. Fender twin sounds best with passive pickups. If you are looking to use lots of different amps go with a low to medium out put pickups.
