Amazing. One of Dudley's final projects was the design of an electronic kit distributed by Bell Labs for home hobbyists and students, called "Speech Synthesis: an Experiment in Electronic Speech Production". The kit contained the components with which to create an electronic circuit that could produce three different speech formants. The kit entered production in 1963 and was produced until the late 1960s. Man, I love those old home electronic kits they used to make... I spent some time listening to Wendy Carlo's Secrets of Synthesis today and I learned a lot. Well worth the bananas -- best $12 I spent all year:http://www.amazon.com/Secrets-of-Synthesis/dp/B0000E32XB
