CMS Author Craig Vecchione Posted July 2, 2003 CMS Author Share Posted July 2, 2003 I thought I had settled on a pair of Peavey SP2x 15" cabs for my proposed practice/small venue system. Yesterday I had a chance to hear some EV Eliminator i 15's. Pretty impressive and slightly less money. Unfortunately there was no way to a/b with an SP2x, so I'm not certain. Of course, the sales kid was of no help....both cabs were "my favorite", and he didn't have any technical details to offer comparison. I'd also plan to eventually get some subs.....and that's where my homebuilt plans ("Homemade Subs" thread) might be derailed. They have some Force i 18" subs for $385.....that's cheap enough to make building my own rather a bad idea. Unless you think they're either crap or not well-aligned with the Eliminator i. So far my proposed system is: an RQ2318 or Soundcraft Spirit M 16ch a Crown UT2020 or Peavey pv2600 one of these two cabs some sort of sub, homebuilt or as described above. Opinions? Members flanc
SP 2 Specs:http://www.peavey.com/media/pdf/manuals/80304850.pdf Elimintor i specs:http://www.electrovoice.com/electrovoice/EVfiles.nsf/lookup/Eliminator_i-eds/$File/Eliminator-i-EDS.pdf I'd look at the Yorkville elite e15 as a step up from both (100db sensitivity, speakon/1/4, circuit breaker protection, 11 ply birch, great warrenty, 129db Max spl) http://www.audioeast.com/yorkvilleelite.htm

Where would I be able to test-drive them?
Members flanc
You can check their web site and find a dealer near you. I saw a band using the gear I was looking at and hooked-up with them ahead of time to check-out the cabinets. I've run Peavey SP's, Yamaha Club's and other MI gear...all fine. I find (& others too) that the Yorkville elite series is a much more articulate box for the money. The B&C drivers are far superior to others in the price range. The Peavey, Ev's and other's in the wide MI category will all do you just fine. The step up to truly pro-gear is normally a 4X-10X multiplier in cost (Meyer, EAW, etc.) I find the Yorkville elite gear to be close to pro gear in quality and close to MI gear in cost. Members ezstep
Up until a few years ago, I was a HUGE EV Eliminator fan. But Peavey has made some advances in their speakers. There is a big, big difference between their SP2G and their SP2X. I would take that over the EV in a heartbeat. I would choose a Yammy Club IV over the EV. That being said, I would also look at other brands (Yorkville included) because even better speakers are out there at the same price range. Members swingbass
Ezstep, I'm all ears to hear what other brands we need to check out that would be in the same price/quality catagory as as the Yorkville Elites or the new Peaveys. Anybody have some input on the Yorkville E404 speakers?
