Members squealie
Trying this forum, because Anderton-ites are most likely to have an answer. OK, after hours of searching for a device like this..... Here's my scenario: I have a Hart/AlesisDM5 electronic drumkit. The DM5 only has the 'switching' style hi-hat control. I want to add a continuous-style HH to the kit, but since I am using soft-synth drums, I don't want to replace the DM5... I hope to continue to use it as the trigger-to-MIDI device. All the electronic HH pedals, use 1/4' jacks. The CC style being a simple resistor based design. I've found DOZENS of pedals, brains, even DIY kits built on the existing formats.... but nothing that will get me from a commercially available HH pedal, to MIDI without using a brain. Even the Roland TMC-6 is ~$200...and more than I need. Has anyone seen a device that can connect to the pedal, and generate the MIDI CC data, plus the 'close-hat' note? @witzend. And thanks. Gus Lozada
The DM5's pedal input accepts only on/off type pedals. What you are looking for is a FD-7 or FD-8 type pedal for the DM5 but they won't work.
Members Jeff da Weasel
Right. It won't work because the DM5 is not set up to recognize continuous controller data in the hi-hat input, whether you're using it for the internal sounds or just as a trigger-to-MIDI device. Oh well. - Jeff
Members squealie
Jeez. I really, really tried, to communicate that I UNDERSTAND THAT. I'm looking for a way to get CC data to the computer in addition to the trigger data from the DM5. Without buying another brain. If someone manufactured a self-contained HH controller, that had a MIDI jack on it, that knew enough to transmit CC and a piezo element that could send a note on msg.... I'd be in bizzy. BUT APPEARANTLY, NO ONE DOES. So I was hoping for a little box, that read the resistor value of a production pedal, and translated it to MIDI. Members squealie
Brilliant!!!!!!!!!!! That may actually work. Thank you soooo much! Although for $129..... I might be able to pick up an old yamaha brain cheaper.
Members squealie
You wanna hear something stupid? I had this in my closet. http://www.keyboardmuseum.org/ar/a/anat/pedal.html It might work, if I can figure out what powers it. edit: HOLY CRAP! MIDI phantom power!
