  1. Vox Virage: [video=youtube;VDBpl6kK9jY] [video=youtube;ztgpbGMlXe8]
  2. Pick attack and amp settings. Plenty o' twang here without a tele in sight. Is that a poor choice of words when talking about Johnny Hiland? [video=youtube;bYkv5mcqevw]
  3. Definitely. So are you going with an eleven rack or axe fx?
  4. Pretty sure that 5% is not more than 1 in 20. Not sure if the 5% is in the US or globally, but i trust my source on the 5% figure.
  5. Guitar players are only 5% of the population. Better to spend money on more targeted marketing efforts. When you think about it, 5% is pretty a pretty large percentage - 1 in 20?
  6. What about a compressor with the volume boosted? The other guitarist in a band I was in did this and it worked well. I used a big muff. I always liked his tone better (and he was using a rat for dirt, too). He just had the Boss Compressor/Sustainer.
  7. Saw a Yamaha SG-5 go for $600 yesterday. Cheapest used ones out there are listed between $1,100 and $1,400. Seller didn't know what they had. I got sniped on it, but I wouldn't have gone that high, anyway. There are interesting things out there. They are fewer and farther, though.
  8. Does anybody know how the JSX Mini and Valveking Royal 8 compare? Similar tube setup, same company...obviously the JSX is a lot better but is the basic tonality similar? Did a side-by-side when they first came out, and I didn't like the attenuator on the JSX. It got kind of mushy at lower volumes. I never thought it was worth the extra $$. The Royal 8 @ $85 is a no-brainer. Don't get many tube amps w/ a headphone out, either. Good choice.

I saw a black one earlier today for $99. You could block the trem.
  10. I'm similar to Chiro - my last band broke up about 10 years ago, I got married, went back to grad school, had kids. For a while all my guitars were in storage, so I ended up selling almost all my gear. I kept one acoustic and one electric. I started playing again about a year ago, and when my then two-year-old son knocked my acoustic into the electric and put a big gash in it, I decided to get a cheap beater to play on until the kids got older. Now I can leave my SX out and who cares what happens to it. The finish is so thick, I don't think the kids could hurt it if they tried. Also like Chiro, the progress is slow going. I don't pick up my guitar as much as I want, so I don't end up learning much knew stuff. I kinda play the same old thing over and over.
