Low wattage tube combos are very popular in studios. You can crank them to where they sound godly, and they won't hurt you or the neighbors. 5-15 watts is perfect. I've heard some good sounds from things like guitar rig, but it seems to require hours of "tweaking" to get it to sound right, and it takes me about 1 minute to get my setup perfect (I even put a little dot on my amp's speaker grilles where the sweet spot is for the mic). That being said, Bose needs to go. That would be my first investment-decent monitors are essential for recording. Without them, you won't be able to tell if your tone IS good. Bose is alright for consumer listening, but they color the response of their speakers so much, you never hear what's really there.
