Members cratz2
Yeah, I have a friend from Finland that is all into this sort of symphonic and/or melodic Scandanavian metal and I must admit that they are one of my favorites. Also a band named Covenant/Kovenant which reminds me of them as well... sort of half singing, half cookie monster stuff. Probably my favorite Kovenant piece, musically anyway: [video=youtube;-mCJ0GWIrbw]

Members Yarbicus
Don't get me wrong--I'm heavily into Death and Thrash, too, but I just love the way the sound of Amorphis. Hardly symphonic, however. More proggy, I suppose. Regardless, it is just the right blend of style, ability, and aggression for me.
Members cratz2
To be honest, I stopped being able to keep track of which subgenre was which around the time when black metal fans would swear that death metal was complete crap and vice versa and both camps thought that thrash metal bands were a bunch of sellouts. Of the northern European stuff, I like the lyrical, melodic stuff and I'd put Amorphis and Kovenant into that category.

Members Father_William
Amorphis reminds me of a more pop (not very though) Sentenced.
