Members 8 Foot Manchild
Hello, Harmony Central. First time poster, long time lurker here.In recent years I've acquired a taste for putting together my own 'project guitars'. I found this cheap beast at a used gear store,It beckoned me... SG body, lone neck pickup (I never use the bridge), light weight (I have back problems), and an easily sandable paint job - it's the perfect chassis for me.Anyway, my chief concern is the stock mini-humbucker that came with it. It takes a lot of coaxing (read: VOLUME) to bring this thing to life. I'm looking for something with a lot more punch - something especially suited for riff-based hard rock, if I can find it.I've looked into the Duncan SM series, wondering if anyone has any experience with them. Also, if there are other options I should consider, please let me know. I imagine a P90 would require some extra routing, but not as much as a fullbucker.Thanks...
Members docjeffrey
I was just plying my SG Classic in which I installed a TV Jones Powertron in a P90 enclosure and talk about punch! It also cleans up beautifully. I have a Powertron Plus in my La Cabronita and it absolutely roars but I don't like the cleans quite as well. Members Elessar [Sly]
That is a very cool guitar! A nice little project to work on. I haven't played the SM pups, but I have an SH5 and a '59 in my Gibson 2010 SG standard. I tend to lean towards bare knuckle pickups more to be honest.
