Here's "Captain" Kirk Douglas' take on the night Prince trashed his prize Epiphone Crestwood.

Kirk Douglas

KIrk's a class act who deserves whatever success he's received, and more.  Kudos to Prince for paying for the repairs, but he should have done more to make it right. :robotmad:

busted Epiphone

What difference does it make if you think the guitar is crappy?  That's not the point.  Prince abused another musician's instument that was kindly lent to him for a performance.  I think the fact that so people reached out to Kirk and called Prince out for being an a**hole was a good thing.  But at the end of the day Prince could care less and the incident generated more press for him. It won't be too long before he pulls some other stunt to keep his name on folks lips.  SMH.....

I'll not repeat my point about Carlos Boozer's carpet, but I do find it odd that having his guitar damaged by Prince has lead to more posts on this forum for Kirk than has his actual guitar playing ...

He should have thrown Prince down at the end of the performance. To treat someone's prozed possession like a stage prop is just wrong. Fact is, his nose was probably out of joint the guy wouldn;t sell it to him just because he's Prince made the spoiled little diva angry and he probably thought "if I can't have it neither can he so I'll just f**k it up on him." Just shows what a POS the guy is.

61 Crestwood a crappy guitar?  Would you say that about John Lennon's Casino as well?  How about a 61 Gibson?  Somebody doesn't know much about vintage guitars me thinks.

Actually I have a couple of guitars I paid $100 for used that I fixed up that are close to irreplaceable and priceless to me.  I mean I love my MIM Fender Squier Series and MIJ Aria Pro Bobcat as much as my 89 American Strat, my US Hamers or my Gibson LP.  A good guitar is a good guitar in my book regardless of price and from the article there is little doubt that the man loved, performed and recorded with that guitar.  I'm afraid I wouldn't have the self-restraint that Douglas exhibited.

First off, I think Prince is an arrogant asshole for doing this. Its just disrespectful as hell. Like "Im Prince mother{censored}er and I can do whatever I want because Im a rich rock star". Its as if he feels he doesn't have to abide by the same standards of decency and respect for people's property as the rest of us.

I will say this though, Kirk is right, the incident has gotten him a lot of publicity and name recognition. Thats basically what he said in the interview, that's the  "silver lining" of all this. I, like a lot of people here, had never heard of Capt. Kirk Douglas or The Roots before this happened. Mainly because I don't watch that late night network crap.
