Members Ozwepaie
Ever since I got my Masa. I've been really excited about finally having good tone. And doing lots of reading. Mainly about tubes and how to maintain the new soundI've discovered. But the more I read. The more curious I've become. If tube blah, blah is in the V-1it will do this, & that. But.... there's this blah, blah. So I decided to apply all this combined knowledge, and test it on my old amp.The coveted first gen Crate Blue VooDoo 120. LOL. I put a Tung-Sol 12ax7 in the V-1: Explosive (sets the tone) but noisy.V-2 & 3 I put Groove tube 12ax7-r2. Tall elements quiet w/ lots of low end.V-4 JJ 12ax7a. straight up type to run the FX loopAnd used 4 JJ 6L6 for the power amp. When I plugged this in. (4x12 texas heat) I was completely blown away. This ampalways sounded like crap. And needed tons of help & FX to even sound listenable.Now. The clean is "clean". Warm & clear. And I'm running direct. Zero FX !I hit the gain ch. Take 2 min to dial it in and it is unbelievable ! No overdrive needed !!I have the "gain" at 3:o'clock. And it's Slip knot hard. But clear and defined. No mud,you hear the notes. I can't believe what I'm haring come from this POS of an amp. Guys. I'm picky as f**k ! I'm an old school solid state Dime lover. And have had thatsound for years. Just in the past year, I've come over to tubes. Just looking for somevariety. But when it comes to my "gain" I know what I like !! And when I say this thinghits. It's a Nuke !! So now I wonder. Do I have a 1 of a kind golden DooDoo ?? or can anybody get thistone ?I'm asking anybody out there that owns one. Dump $100. worth of new tubes in it. Andlet me know ? But you need to use the exact same brand, type, and order. For myexperiment to work. I just gotta know.. In the meantime, I'll try and get an MP3 of what mine sounds like. Members Ozwepaie
1: I don't know "Lumpy". 2: I have a Roadster. 3: And Groove Tubes, are all I had around in the way "tall element" 12ax7-r2. I took it to a friends Fri. night and pushed it at full volume. Really loud the clean broke up a bit. But the gain channel was relentless.
Members greg apocalypse
He put the tape there so the high and low E wouldn't get caught under the pickup bobbins during big whammy bar dives.
