Members JV90
Could somebody explain how can this happened? This is my 2nd time over the 5 years that I have with my rig that occurs this, if you look closely the diaphragm isn't burn, however, i breaks over the edge or some side; this happened on Saturday in a gig, I always install 2 12" powered speaker over the 18" powered sub, so i was working with 2 tops and 1 sub, but I don't have a clue regarding why this happened, I control a lot the highs over the pa and I'm not the one who likes to give a lot of high signals over the pa, This was in foh, I understand how can you break or burn a diaphragm with to much high signals, however, being this my 2 time I don't have a clue regarding Why this happened? Members Dookietwo
It looks like these tops. http://www.elderaudio.com/products/MultifunctionSpeaker/TSSeries/TS360a.html120 db peak output, about 114 dbs rms? 2 inch woofer coil. A not too bad 1.75 inch horn driver. So roughly 124-126db max per side. If there is a true 100 watts to the horn then you may be just pushing too much.I would mark the cabinet and see if it is the one that has the same problem down the road. It could be a bad crossover. What model is the sub? I can't seem to find them.Dookietwo EDIT: I believe I found the subs here.http://www.elderaudio.com/download/pdf/eb118a.pdfIf we are to believe the spec. the subs run about 7dbs louder than the 2 tops per side. Should be a pretty good match within reason for a little thump in the mix type music. If you have the system setup and mixing trying to get the tops as loud as the subs then they would run out of gas sooner than the subs so it is possible for the tops to be pushed too hard. Members Pro Sound Guy
If this is an active box then disregard my post on a possible passive xover issue. The power amp/active internal xover needs to be serviced.
Members JV90
Thanks everyone for your comments Altought the boxes are the TS300A, 12" powered speaker, the 360 are the same with 15" speaker, pero sound guy, thanks for the advice I'll do what you suggest,
Members JV90
The boxes are marked, I think maybe I just push them a little hard, but thank God it was only 1 box, the replacement cost me $19 just the diaphragm, the dealer gave me a discount cause I've always buy from them, the real price of the diaphragm was $39,according to them they gave me their cost price; before I install the new diaphragm I have a friend who is a good technician that I would take the box to check with him and suggest what pro sound guy advice
Members JV90
Also? Is there a difference (sorry if this is a dumb question) between my broken diaphragm and when you burn all the voice coil? Or is the same? My father taught me that the voice coil would burn if you go to exaggerate with high frequency, but he never told me about this in my case
