I like to have as few things as possible in my signal path from music source to speakers. :-) My subs have selectable (3 position) low pass filters, while most of my tops do have high pass filters on them, so it's never been a big concern, but when it comes to little speakers like the NX10C, I simply feel bad feeding them a full range signal and IMO these little guys NEED to be used with a sub or subs in most applications - why I was relaly surprised not to find a HP built-in...
