Members Gaul
By now, there are Hardware synthesizers that can be integrated as VST. But how about vice versa? For example, having some keyboard workstation with integrated sequencer, and using, for example, all those gorgeous Arturia Analog Factory VST samples in Sequencer mode of that hardware Synthesizer/Rompler/Keyboard, whatever. Does any hardware keyboard system like that exist and if not, why not?

Members xanderbeanz
open labs neko/miko is a workstation (well basically a pc with a musical keyboard) that can load up vst's and layer them etc...receptor is similar but it's a rackmount unit. for a cheaper option, i just multisample (ie record lots of notes off) my vsts into my alesis fusion and then save them as a patch so i can play them live x
Members NickD101
Also V-Machine if you're on a budget
Members girevik
If you count hardware rackmounts, you have to include Muse Research Receptor on the list.
Members bruto
Ditto on the Muse Receptor. It's the one in widest use, and many bands use it. We are all waiting for mainstream workstations to incorporate VST hosts. I read rumors, but nothing's out there yet.
Members bruto
Also V-Machine if you're on a budget I just saw that the other day on that Sonic Projects OP-X demo. It looked ok on the demo.

Members idiotboy
If you stretch your definition a bit, I suppose you could put NI Kore and Maschine into this category. The Creamware ASB and Plugiator boxes started out as software, so again, stretching your definition a bit.
Members idiotboy
BTW, I was pretty rocked by that OPX V-Machine demo, but $599 for the V-machine is still a bit over my sweet spot.
Members Metrosonus
i'd think vmachine is the way to go, especially if you have a sequencer.
Members evildragon
If it only had a more juicy CPU and more RAM...
Members Metrosonus
does it lag and spike? i'd assume there's little overhead on it..
Members augerinn
BTW, I was pretty rocked by that OPX V-Machine demo, but $599 for the V-machine is still a bit over my sweet spot. I actually bought it(Op-X) . I also own FM-8, Pro-53, Absynth, and the Classic Keys Bundle. I currently have an old dual CPU 1U rack mount server running XP and a WaMi Rack for my I/O. Not the optimal soluition, however. It's big (36" deep), it's LOUD (dual CPU fans plus case fans), Ihave to use an A-B switch to share the monitor and keyboard with my sequencing PC (rack mount), etc etc etc.... I just can't justify over 1K for a MUSE, as much as I want one. The V-machine looks promising, but underpowered.
Members McHale
If it only had a more juicy CPU and more RAM... that version should be out in a month or so. Double the RAM and processor I believe for an extra $150 I think?
Members zzzxtreme
mchale, dunno about an 'upgraded' vmachine, but certainly they demoed an upgraded model, the vrack. core2duo + normal dimm. Sata connector, usb, midi , etc... list $1300 ?
Members johnnydr
Sent Sm Pro Audio an email the other day to see if they would give up a release date on the V Rack, but got no reply. Hope it's available by Xmas

Not sure if there's been any more news on this since the original announcement.
