Do any keys players here use a "stomp-box" ?

Something like this hooked up to a Motif rack (even the original Motif rack) would give you so many possibilities it would make your head spin.....the megastomp seems extremely limited by comparison....I'm not sure if you've ever ever flipped through all the drum & percussion sounds in the Motif rack (not to mention all the sound effects and other categories) but there are TONS and these can be assigned with a user drum voice to any of the pedals in this unit......you can also do things like turn velocity sensitivity off to make the sounds very stable and consistant regardless of how hard you would strike the pedals....

There are other companies that make very similar MIDI foot controllers that might be less expensive (I haven't researched it)......there also are more expensive ones with built in tone generators......I find the drum sounds in the Motifs to be very convincing and varied and the built in effects available open up even more possibilities....you could have many setups stored and could make quick changes in sound setups instantly...you could even have another foot pedal like the MIDI Mouse or MIDI Moose change patches in the Motif rack with your other foot...(you'd need a MIDI Merge box to run both pedals into the Motif rack)....

Cutoff is a great parameter to use when making setups as you can adjust all sounds in each setup from completely brilliant to completely muffled to make each one exactly the way you need them to be....cutoff is like an extreme tone control......sounds can also be transposed when you set them up within a drum voice (for example, a snare drum transposed down can sound like an explosion) and even if you don't need that extreme of a change, it's there if you do....

A similar suggestion, I know that the FCB1010 can be programmed to send out midi note messages. I once helped a drummer set one up to play sounds from a drum module. It doesnt have any velocity sensitivity though. You'll also have two expression pedals and whichever of the other switches you're not using for sounds to do almost whatever else you want.

Using stomp boxed on synths is a old trick that works well, going back to using a distortion pedal on leads or a Small Stone phaser on string machines by Jarre and many others. They can give you a bang for the buck, but they are usually mono, and they can be noisy.
