  • Let Your Heart Believe

Work in process lyrics and music. Havent had a chance to record yet. Here are the lyrics though-

    Let Your Heart Believe

Woke up feeling like I lost a friend
    the rain outside
    clouds my mind
    turns me inside out again
And I don't know the reason why
No matter how hard I try

Don't think that I'll ever be the same
Every time I learn the rules
    Life will change the game
No one said that it was fair
I'm just a little worse for wear

    Don't call me a loser
Cause I won't let it win
Keep falling off of this ride
But I get back on again

    You might say I'm crazy
Cause I wear it on my sleeve
The only way to know love
is to let your heart believe
Got to let your heart believe

Spread my wings and try to fly
Ride the wind into the sky

This old world keeps racing by
I'm just holding on for dear life

    Don't call me a loser
Cause I won't let it win
Keep falling off of this ride
But I get back on again

    You might say I'm crazy
Cause I wear it on my sleeve
The only way to know love
is to let your heart believe
Got to let your heart believe

Sometimes home don't feel the way it should
    words and lies
    and alibies
    Feeling misunderstood
But I still hold the hope of time
Think I'll make it through just fine

    Don't call me a loser
Cause I won't let it win
Keep falling off of this ride
But I get back on again

    You might say I'm crazy
Cause I wear it on my sleeve
The only way to know love
is to let your heart believe
Got to let your heart believe

Tony - it's always difficult to critique a lyric without music, but I'm just going to suggest a couple of small changes to the chorus because I think it may have a smoother flow once you try singing it.

    Don't call me a loser
Cause I won't let it win
Keep falling off this ride (deleted word 'of')
But I get back on again

    You might say I'm crazy

Cause I wear it on my sleeve
The only way to know love
is to let your heart believe
Let your heart believe (deleted words 'Got to')

This is strong as is. There aren't any lines here which blow me away, or really stand out, but it's all solid. All the sentiments are fairly conventional, and said fairly conventionally. I would want to hear the music, though. Music could make this a cool standout or insipid. Hope this helps.

Lyrically, I think this section is a bit trite.could easily be deleted:

Spread my wings and try to fly
Ride the wind into the sky

This old world keeps racing by
I'm just holding on for dear life

        The rest is good.
“Good Vibrations” was probably a good record but who's to know? You had to play it about 90 bloody times to even hear what they were singing about. What’s next? Rock opera? —Pete Townshend, Melody Maker Interview, 1966.

Thank you for the input. The problem, as always, is that my playing is limited at best and my voice is worse. I have no theory training so I playing by feel and guess work. I think the tempo needs to be stepped up a bit and I might add some short breaks in between versus and between versus and chorus. Here it is with just me and my guitar. If anyone ever wants to take one of these things and run with it, feel free. Id love to hear it.

            This version is much better.

The only thing I can think of right now is that the "don't call me loser" section (or chorus) is too similar to the rest of the song and it needs a change of tempo or key change, or both.
