Arturia Analog Factory

How do people find the CS80v? I found it quite thin!

There were only a handul of patches that I really liked in the presets... some kind of String synth sound and a piano/organ layered sound...

Is it really that close to a real CS80??

Yeah, it makes sense I suppose... develop the DSP modules individually and then bolt together different configurations to make different synths...

I wouldn't think any of Arturias range are that accurate, but they do have a sound to them I suppose. The Modular Moog was interesting but too complex for me. The Analog Factory is probably pretty much the same code repeated for the different modules...

Yeah I always thought it sounded a bit 1982 Roger Limb and Paddy Kingsland Radiophonic Workshop like...

It reminds me of something like the Solina String Ensemble at times but with more options...

Totally agree about the bass end. Each to their own though...

I love its brass and string sounds, at least on Vangelis and Jarre records..

I'm not sure if I've got the same meaning of the word 'phat' but the CS80 low pad sound played by Vangelis on Mutiny on the Bounty (End Titles) is 'phat' like no other synth for me.

The thundery sound, if you know what I mean, is probably played with only one key, as I saw on at least two Vangelis videos.

I've listened to the mp3 demos of their new Prophet V and they don't sound anything like a Prophet 5 or a Prophet VS. I was actually more interested in the Prophet VS emulation as that is one of my all time favorite synths. But their version sounds nothing like what I remember a Prophet VS sounding like. If they labled the same demo as the Minimoog V demo, I wouldn't have been able to tell the difference.

I actually purchased the dongle to get the Prophet V demo. After using it for about a week, I realized I couldn't use it. 1 - because it's a CPU hog and killed my G4 with layered sounds, 2 - because it really didn't sound like a Prophet 5 (never used a VS) except they got the "out of tune" scheme right... and 3 - the synchrosoft dongle itself caused all kinds of havoc with my computer, and made a real headache with Cubase (which uses its own dongle). So I gave up on it pretty quickly. Wasn't even worth sending back the dongle for 15 bucks.

It's pretty cool as a jukebox of VA presets. In stand alone mode when i send a program change, instead of switching the patch, it seems to want to clip the VCA's instead.

There are a lot of good sounds here, and it is free... I might use this one to get some of the sounds that my Moog Modular V cant make (yes the Arturia synths do in fact have some sonic differences between them)

Yeah took a long time for me too... I think it's because there are a lot of small files rather than a few small ones...

I really like some of the Arp brass... I just wish it was aftertouch enabled... even the mod wheel doesn't work for a lot of the patches.... and whats with emulating the ARPs downward scanning... I would prefer to be able to disable that as it means that arpeggios on the upstroke have to be perfect..

:D

Not noticed anything, was using it most of the day, the only thing that confused me was no documentation or info about it? and it took hours to load too and from smart media card?

This is a softsynth demo that could be ideal for someone on a tight budget and needs old skool synth sounds, they can purchase the full program later, well done Arturia for not being too greedy.

Saying that though, the greedy bastards disabled pro 5 and vs

Only kidding, they did good
:)

This softsynth is so simple it reminds me of using synths without memory locations, your forced to be creative. The few controllers and parameters are just enough to get interesting new sounds.

Could this be one of the most useful and interesting softsynth demos in ages. Im going to attempt an whole track with it.
