Members WhinyLittleRunt
You know why? Cuz there's too many people, that's why. You have a question, don't expect it to get answered if it's slightly obscure. On to my question - which maybe can be answered here... The Roland GR-300 interests me. I am a huge fan of Pat Metheny and love his trumpet sound. I also read from reviews that it's the fastest-tracking guitar synth out there. Now, I know you need a specific roland guitar to go with it, but being that I'm left handed, do you think it would make a difference for tracking purposes how the strings are oriented? Members fearofnightmare
You can get a Roland guitar synth pickup and mount it on a lefty guitar.

But don't the pots on the guitar correspond to controls on the synth itself?

But the Roland GK pickup won't control the GR-300. The reason that the GR-300 is the best and fastest tracking guitar synth ever, is because it has nothing to do with midi. Members WhinyLittleRunt
That was sort of what I was thinking too, because it uses that 24-pin connector from the guitar right to the synth, and I remember the pots actually controlling cutoff and resonance. I think you have to use a specific guitar with that one, and I think it's the GR-303. My question is if the tracking would be all messed up if I reversed the strings to play it lefty style. I know they're obviously very particular units...
Members G-bus
I don't think it should matter if the strings are reversed, but having said that, you might want to talk to a Roland guru to be sure. Are you considering buying a GR-300? If you could try it out with the strings reversed first, that would obviously be ideal.
Members suitandtieguy
any roland 24 pin guitar controller will work with the 300. however, the G-707 and GK-1 pickups will not give you hexfuzz. you can use a GR-300 with a GK-2A pickup using this device: http://www.joness.com/gr300/RC13.htm it's very expensive but worth it if you really give a {censored} about the GR thang. i give a {censored} but don't play my GR-300 enough to justify it (i'm not a guitarist, but i like the 300 enough to own one which i will never get rid of.) It's obviously a long shot because I'd have to get both pieces, meaning $$$ But I think they're really cool and I honestly love that simple trumpet-type sound. I do too, and I also love the instantaneous glitch-free tracking, which is obviously a big part of why Metheny was able to be so expressive with it. Keep me posted if you get one. I've been passively looking at GR300 auctions for awhile, and it's probably just a matter of time before I pull the trigger.
