Members XorAxAx
So, the V-Synth thread got me thinking about X-Y pads. What is the current selection of products that include an X-Y pad? Here's what I have off the top of my head, and what people have replied below: Controllers:- JazzMutant Lemur- Korg padKontrol- Mercurial Innovations STC-1000- Novation controllers- Computer trackpads (with appropriate software) Synths:- Korg Z1 (discontinued)- Moog Voyager- Novation synths- Roland D2 (groovebox)- Roland V-Synth Effects:- Korg Kaoss Pad What else? Members keanu reeves
the orange red tabletop unit is the roland d2. i have zero experience with any x-y pads. so that is all i will contribute to this thread.
Members idiotboy
Moog Voyager? And of course the Korg Kaoss, but maybe you're excluding standalone xy pads (?)
Members Khazul
Some company in the states was making a dedicated X/Y/Z (X/Y+presure) midi pad - sadly cant remember who - I think it was in last years NAMM news - again dont remember if summer or winter. Personally I really like X/Y pads - its the main reason I still keep my Novation Remote 25 controller.

Members Allerian
The Voyager's X/Y pad is mighty nice. It's default mapping is pretty awesome all by itself: l/r is cutoff, u/d is filter spacing, and the more overall contact you have with the pad, the higher the resonance. Members mildbill
Z1 is the first thing I thought of, but it's discontinued and Xor asked for current stuff. The Z1's X/Y pad is great tho and you get a nice keyboard to go with it.
Members idiotboy
tangent: what is "filter spacing"?
Members Nikolai
You can get a Kaoss pad made by Korg (retail: 299.99 USD). It's not a product that includes an X-Y pad, it's more like a product that is an X-Y pad. Think of it as an external keyboard effects pad. I'm not sure, but I think it may even light up to some degree.

AFAIK, it's usually the distance between cutoff points with dual filters, or the distance between peaks or dips with comb filters.

I mean, the Z1 is still 'current' in that I can buy one on eBay for a decent price.
Members niacin
I have played a friend's Novation X-station a few times and the X-Y pad has a very noticeable delay between when you touch it and when it triggers whatever it's patched to. Members mrcpro
Z1 is the first thing I thought of too... because it's other similiarities to the V-Synth it just popped into my head.... 5 octaves, quality build, untraditional VA, knobs... One in great shape with original box and manuals sold for $405 last week. This is a quality board. Just a little different, that's all.
Members idiotboy
seriously cheap. I almost popped for that one on eBay, and I have no room whatsoever for it. I just wanted to try out MOSS, but the xy is a real plus too. Still thinking about getting a Triton rack w/MOSS. Someday.

Members asynchro_nous
How about the pad on laptops -- does that count? Set up right, couldn't that be used as a controller? And what about Wacom tablets?
Members pizzamon
Man, that is an outstanding observation. Could someone who codes well write up a little vsti that uses the mouse-pad in this manner? You will probably make some loot off it.
Members XorAxAx
I'm not counting laptops or tablet controllers unless a product exists currently that works out of the box. To work, it needs to either send MIDI CCs or modulate an internal synthesis engine
