Members Cloacal-X
I always thought it was a neat concept, but every demo I've heard made these things sound terrible. Not that I have a problem with terrible, but it seems like this stuff just has a very narrow usable context.
Members kooki_sf
terrible? or.... awesome! *happy owner of a buttprobe*
Members Cloacal-X
No, definitely terrible. It's a very unique, specific kind of terrible. Maybe that's awesome to you, but it just sounds like unwiped ass to me. *edit* To clarify, I'm really only talking about the Butt Probe. I just listened to the demos again and the S1000 seems pretty cool, and I could see a use for a lot of the other stuff. But the Butt Probe, and that other one (the TX-1, whatever it was called)...eww. At least, based on what I've heard. Do they do anything that doesn't turn whatever you put into it into basically the same distorted blob of noise?
Members kooki_sf
well the thing has two outputs, if you only use one of the tube paths, its a little more manageable. also, if you dont use it directly but as a send from a mixer with some decent gain control you can get some wonderfully mellow tones out of it. it takes a little more effort than most, but its a wonderful beast. Members ShakaCthulu
I hear people rave about them, but all the mp3 demos just sound like basic circuit bends you can do to any crappy $20 effect pedal. If they were priced around $100 - $200 I could see throwing down for that, but for me they're way overpriced for what they do.
Members Purity_Control
No, definitely terrible. It's a very unique, specific kind of terrible. Maybe that's awesome to you, but it just sounds like unwiped ass to me. there used to be a page of testimonials on their website about how ~bad~ the agoniser was, though the page is gone now... i think some of their products are meant to sound awful... it's a kind of weird selling point... ...never played with one myself, but they've certainly got some high profile fans... including aphex twin and the dear mr reznor... Members Awakened_Yeti
the tube synth sounds really, really good - but not 2500$ good IMO (then again, neither does the Voyager IMO)

True, but those guys also have circuit bent instruments. I know Reznor has one of Tablebeast's bent SK1s.
