Members realtrance
If you want 8-voice analogue, that's utterly, velvety gorgeous.... there's nothing like this one. Anywhere. Well worth the price for what it does. A good piano can cost $50k. This is a steal. It is as musical.
Members clusterchord
it sounds great, but not 5.3K great. i really like the sound, you can hear the xtra juice form discrete circuits all arorund, but it aint the end all be all of polyanalogs. its one more new colour or sound character in the palette of analog, but it hardly covers full spectrum. for starters its of much cleaner, unsaturated character compared to most legendary vintages. and it has slower envelopes than most of them too. so i'd like to have one, but my a6 or prophet ain't going nowhere.. listening to those detailed demos form a while back, i think it lacks a bit of that characteristic low mid girth found in oberheims to be a real pad monster. seems to me the jump in price from previous version (omega8) is more or less only cosmetics n design. not really much change in sound. updated OS yes, but its mainly de-bug. something they had to do anyway. so if you want top discrete sound polyanalog, and dont mind overpaying a bit for its "prettyness" its the board for you. i'd like that blonde android from "galactica" show instead, thank you.. Members clusterchord
Is she analog or digital? Either way, though - she sounds great. oh yes.. i'd betray human race in a sec.. just to get her. fwiw, i'd much rather have a SunSyn that Code. i like that in your face sound. of course, this choice is partly influnced by my existing setup. ah, i wish i had the juice to pick one SS while they were in production. well maybe one day, of eBay or soemthing.. damn. lucky you .. PS Drool, was it you saying you had both signal Arts and P3 sequnecers, it has been a while, i forogt..? edit: yeah you were. over n out, switching to HW Sequencer thread.. Members XorAxAx
$5300!!! For that price, one could buy two Andromedas and put one in the closet. Then you have twice as many voices, way more features and modulation, and a backup unit on standby in climate-controlled storage (your closet). Members realtrance
For that price you could also buy fifty-three sample CDs to sample into your sampler; or all of Native Instruments' and Cakewalk's main software suites; or put down a down payment on a cheap car. All depends on what you want! I'd take one of these over six somesynths any day! Especially since you'd be able to get repairs and updates from this stellar crew of instrument makers, if needed or desired, no small factor when buying a real analogue. Members Carey M
For what it 'does'? What makes this worth practically 2 sunsyns? Well, I've never heard/read anybody describing the Sunsyn as being "smooth" or "velvety". So maybe if you want the ultimate modern-discrete-velvety-smooth synth, the Code will be worth it. All this smooth-velvety talk makes me lust for a... pint of Guinness! - CM
Members clusterchord
Andromeda pisses over Code from 10.000 feet. well i love a6 sound, and perhaps in some ways this is true, but it just ain't possible to get such texture and clarity of vco/vcf on Andromeda. even tho it may not seem so from looking at the specs, me think they really are apples and oranges when it comes to subtleties of analog sound. its just overdesigned and overpriced. it definetely needs to have punchy hardware envelopes (like SunSyn has) in this price range, its propostrous to stuff it with software envs and ask 5 grand. also the ability to use both filters SIMULTANEOUSLY with serial/parallel config. i mean, paying for two fantastic discrete filters per voice, and you're forced to use one at a time is really STUPEEED. even with all this remedied, it shouldn't go for more than 3.5k or something. honestly, in that case, i'd buy it. Members syncretism
Andromeda pisses over Code from 10.000 feet. So, you've used a CODE? Is that the "ten thousand foot" view?
Members Teoman
Its possibly just me, but I never liked the sound of SE Omega8 or Sunsyn. I programmed many vintage stuff on my Andy and I can't imagine any other analog sounding much much better. Yes, discrete analogs tend to sound smoother, but it is not my number one preference. I rather prefer the raw sound of A6 or even P5. Tastes are subjective of course.
Members Teoman
So, you've used a CODE? Is that the "ten thousand foot" view? No, but some additional features don't make it sound any different than Omega. And I listened to almost any Omega demo I have found. But I have to repeat again, tastes are subjective and I would never pay $5000+ for it.
