Members doomy3
Hey all, I am a guitar player, but have been wanting to pick up a synth to play around with and have a trade offer for a Korg MS2000, and I was wondering if any of the synth players on here could tell me a value on it and if it is worth having. I also have been looking at some of the Alesis synths and the microkorg, so how does the MS2000 compare to them? Thanks in advance for your help! Members electrik force
Well the synth sounds good but the bad thing is that it is only 4 voices of polyphony (meaning you can only play 4 notes at once).
Members Duane Bradley
Actually, 4 notes of polyphony means that you can play 5 notes at once. 1 note isn't polyphony - it's monophonic. So 1 note of polyphony means that you can play 2 notes at once. And so on. Until you get to 18. 18 notes of polyphony means that you can play 22 notes at once. No one knows exactly why. Members She Hates Me
Price wise I've seen the MS2000 from $250-350 (alot of people bought em, now alot are dumping them). The Microkorg is basically a stripped down version; take the MS over the Micro. As compares to the Alesis Ion and Micron, arguably Alesis has the 'best' budget VA synth on the market. However, for your first synth, if you're not wanting to get the Ion (the bigger version), then I'd get the MS... you'll want plenty o' knobs and sliders for a synth, makes learning and playing much less frustrating to learn on. The MS isn't bad, especially for the price, but the Ion has more functions for just a little more cash.

Agreed.....The Ion has more bang for the buck, with 8-voice polyphony.

Members OPEN OCEAN
nice sound but a bit limited for a first synth...
Members mrcpro
I'd call it a good synth for a guitar player to "pick up and play around with". Decent sound, easier to figure out than either Alesis VAs (because there's less there to figure out, but hey...) Just don't pay too much now...
