Members emunity
Are the voice cards the same? If I were to buy an S5000 could I put the 64 voice card from the S5000 into my S6000 and just use the rest of the S5000 as parts. In other words are the 64 polyphony voice cards in the S5000 and S6000, the same as the voice card board they call the Vox64 which gives you 64 more voice of polyphony? Is ADAT built into the S5000/S6000? I know optical is built in but its a BNC connector I believe not the typical optical you see not sure though? If an ADAT was available for the S5000/S6000 what was that accessory model number? Anyone know anyone selling an Effects board EB-20, for the S5000/S6000 Akai Samplers? Thanks
Members DavidFisher
The EB-20 is kinda useless. Overpriced on the 2ndhand market too. The S-5000 has built in optical, but it's only 2-channelI rarely exceeded 64 voices on mine, if ever. Get the USB board, it's the most important expansion asides from memory IMHO. Members emunity
I have the USB Option. Would you happen to know if the Voice card in the S5000 is the same as the optional Vox64 card? Did they make and ADAT option for the S5000/S6000? Last question if I have the USB option How can I get all my AKAI sample CDs onto that drive? From the PC or Laptop to the USB drive then connect the drive to the AKAI or connect the Hard Drive to the AKAI with a CDROM and copy the Sample CDs on the hard drive that way? I do have CDXtract if that helps any?
Members suitandtieguy
no you have to have a SCSI CD-ROM drive. don't worry, they're like five bucks now. the USB connection is a _target_ connection. the computer has a program, AK.sys, which allows you to edit the onboard programs, and view SCSI/floppy volumes currently mounted on the system. it also allows you to transfer between the computer, the SCSI volumes, and the onboard memory. it's actually pretty {censored}ing rad. most likely it's the last sampler i'll ever buy. unless i need another. Members emunity
Is the Akai.sys software still available for download anywhere? Akai professional site no longer seems to support legacy device firmware and software?

Members idiotboy
TiP: you can use a regular old RS-232 cable (with DB9 connectors) to extend the distance between the S5000/6000 main unit and removable front panel. When I had an S6000, I had the main unit hidden away under a desk, and had the front panel sitting on top of my controller keyboard, comfortably within reach. Using AK.SYS to load sounds, I never needed the (giant) main unit in any of my primary racks. They don't have that old gnarly AKAI sampler grit, but the S5000/6000 kicks serious ass. Members emunity
Ok I don't want to make this a huge thread but. I want to take my AKAI Sample CDs and put them on the hard drive that will connect up to the S5000. Can I use CDxtract to load the Cds onto the HArd drive from the PC then hook up the hard drive to the AKAI and work with the Copied Programs and Samples that way or will CDXtract not copy all the data and samples from the CD to the HArd drive? Last question. What is the SCSI connector on the back of the S5000 and the Z8? It looks like SCSI II? 50 pin trapezoid and not centronics rectangular connector. Members emunity
I found an old APPLE 2-4x reader and connected that up along with an external 9 Gig seagate drive. I installed the Aka.sys software and installed the USB driver for the S5000. I am having a problem when I open AKA sys software, it keeps telling me when I click on the "show device panel" I get an error. "USB Error 15 on Akai S5000. It may have been unplugged. Sometimes I see error code 16. So what is going on there? Actually the Akai sys software had two EXE files. Why are there two of them? I installed both anyhow. aksys253.exe and S56ak253.exe. DOn't know what the second exe installer is for? Ok I am editing this reply and I see that both EXE files have to be installed. One is the Akai sys software and the other seems to be the S5000/S6000 Module for the Akai Application. I am still getting the USB disconnect issue anyone ever have that happen? Ok Edited again. I put a terminator on the APPLE CDrom and I suppose I did not need it since I have the terminator switch on in the back of the S5000. I am using one of the SCSI connectors to connect the 9 gig hard drive and the other connector to connect the APPLE CD rom. so I suppose neither external drive needs termination connectors to them? It stopped given me the error as soon as I removed the external 50 pin terminator from the CDROM. Ok Now that I have it all connected up one quick question how do I copy the AKAI Sample CD to the external SCSI hard drive? WHen I click on utilities I do see a SCSI copy function. I also see I need to change the SCSI ID on the source (CDROM) and the destination drive (External SCSI Seagate 9 gig). Is that what I need to do to copy all the programs, samples , presets etc onto the hard drive? Is this is how its done? Is there a faster way using the AKA sys software or not? THanks for your patience on this thread.
Members suitandtieguy
if you poke around AK.sys you'll figure out how to view the external discs from the program. once you do that you can figure out how to copy them to the internal memory and/or the hard drive. it's cake from there. Members emunity
Will this one work on the Akai S5000/S6000 and Z4/Z8 samplers? It is listed on ebay for $38 plus $18 shipping $16 shipping for each additional unit. He has 24 of them.
