Members naturalbluesky
I saw this video where I guy sampled from a vinyl record. I figured you could do that but what would be a good sampler and record player setup to sample from my millions of records?
Members program_insect
What? I've never heard of sampling from records before. Only sample CDs are allowed for real music.
Members naturalbluesky
I don't know what you're talking about. You can sample from LPs from what I've seen. I'm pretty sure you can sample from any media like casettes too. What? I've never heard of sampling from records before. Only sample CDs are allowed for real music. Members MuzikB
He was being sarcastic. I use a Numark TTX1 and an MV-8800. $$$$ Roland's new SP and choice of turntable is a cheaper option or if you have an Audio Editor, you could take samples using that. Members kazper
Some of the end of the road hardware samples had a RIAA curve built in so you just need the TT and the sampler. Go for a decent sampler that sounds good check out the Asr-10, EOS Ultra series and Akai's S5k,6k and A series. There is other samplers out there, those are just my fav's and what I recommend. Members skunk3
All you need is a decent quality turntable, the best needle you can get (I recommend Ortofon "Arkiv" for sampling) and either a phono direct box or a mixer with phono inputs. From the mixer you can run straight into your sound card or audio interface into a program like Cool Edit Pro/Adobe Audition. Easy as pie and sounds great. Members MuzikB
what about copyright issues ? There are lots but they generally don't go after the little people because there's no money in it. However, I do make it a point to mention where samples where taken from and generally offer these works out for free download. I find it fun to put your own spin on somebody else's vocals and who knows, somewhere along the way you may be asked to do a paying remix project. I've got a piece of vinyl here now with 11 accapellas on it that I intend to go through as soon as Mr. Papen sees fit to e-mail me the link to the 1.1 Predator upgrade. Got some other songs I'd like to use it on as well.
