does anyone have ANYTHING in stock?

Ok, I know that may seem a bit broad, but I am trying to get a new audio interface for my PC. Because I need it in a time sensitive manner (big jam session coming with international guest) the item has to ship very soon.

Ive looked at 4 or 5 different makes and models that would suit my needs, and NONE of the big retailers have ANY of them in stock. None of them claim they will have stock until February (conveniently, the day after the jam is supposed to happen...suck).

So I am a bit miffed. Ill have to just go with what I got and hope the track count doesnt exceed our available inputs.

Oh well..just blowing off steam.

Oddly enough the most reliable place I've found for saying whether something in stock or not is bhphotovideo.com

A *huge* camera supplier, and no audio anywhere in the name.

I bought my audio interface for them.

actually, if you go to bhproaudio.com that's their pro audio section .. they cover all the pro audio, video and photo angles, just different names on their websites.

it's a great place actually, i was really impressed with their staff and they look alot more professional than the "monster truck sunday sunday" kind of vibe you get from the usualy places. They have the same prices as zzounds, sam ash as well..

no, against it. While more expensive, the RME Fireface 800 is much more complete a solution.

I was wondering about that. I love the Fireface 800. I used it frequently at an old job. Echo interfaces are nice too. (AudioFire.) That's what I'm using now for my smallish setup. (nice quality, extremely low latency, nice mixer, excellent build quality, and relatively inexpensive) Anyway, I'd recommend either. I know the Echos are in stock everywhere. I'll take a look around for the RME.

The Echo Audiofires are King Awesome, and if you don't need digital i/o or mic pres, Tony, I still recommend daisy-chaining a few A-12s, which I'm pretty sure you can do with no hassle over Firewire 400 at 44.1khz. They're an underrated series with great quality for their price, and I imagine Nova could give you a little boost if you buy three or so.

Having said that, I swore by my Firestation. The hardware was excellent, the sounds quality superb and their software, while no-frills, was really well implemented - not as good as Creamware's Scope Platform, but better than MOTU's mixing app.

You'll find the SAC's Mackie emulation frustrating with the Firestation. Better to roll your own MIDI implementation with the SAC and MIDI learn.

I looked at the echo a while back. Its a great product, but for the 24 channels, I am going to need two of them. Last time I checked, they did not yet have drivers available that allowed you to stack units. also, two of them costs $1400, which is as much as a Fireface. To be fair, the Fireface doesnt have 24 analog inputs, but I can use stuff I already have to get that.

Also, RME has a top class reputation. I think they are going to be my best option.

You'll like the Fireface. I wouldn't mind having one, but I only record a maximum of a single mono or stereo input at any given time from an outside source. Almost everything I do is in software, except when I want to record something off my modular, some other external piece of gear, etc. (at which point I plug it in to record, and then put it back) I'm using the Audiofire 4 for this very reason.
