Members AstralWurks
Germany are the best synth makers/programmers these days? Seems like most of the best soft-synths out there are programmed by Germans, and then with Access, Waldorf, Elektron etc... Those crazy engineers. Members cebec
Yes, Native Instruments are German. Arturia is Canadian, I think. Jomox is also German, as are MFB and Doepfer.
Members carbon111
There are a lot of good DSP guys in Germany. ...but there's also a lot of high profile "cross pollination" between companies over there too, so its a bit of a self-generating stereotype without a lot of basis in reality. Soft/DSP synths are a niche market, afterall, and it's easy for us synth-heads to get myopic vision
Members ChristianRock
A lot of people will be based out of one place and then have people from somewhere else doing the programming, the testing or the preset work. But yay for Germany, my last name's German oh yeah I drive a german car too

Members AstralWurks
Uh, Elektron is Swedish. Germany, Sweden.. same thing. I believe German is like one of the main languages in Sweden no? Hartmann is German too right? I think alot of it has to do too with the fact that synth based music "Untz Untz Untz".. is soo popular in Germany. LOL. Kraftwerk and Tangerine Dream got everyone mad for synths over there. Members Yoozer
Argh. No, look. It's really easy. You type the word "elektron" in Google. You see "www.elektron.se". You then go to Wikipedia to look up ".se" and end up here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.se which says it's a TLD for Sweden. Then you click on Sweden, and then you see that German is not in the list of official and recognized languages, and you can ctrl+F on the page for the word "German" and see lots of stuff about the war or the occupation in the Dark Ages, but nothing about language. The total of this would prompt you to avoid these comments which do not make you look smart. Maybe I'm old-fashioned or stupid for always looking this kind of stuff up (I personally find it enlightening and it's done in a few seconds), but jeez, you don't hear me saying Washington and Texas are similar. Members syncretism
NI have acquired some of their notable tech from other countries - Spektral Delay {RIP} and Absynth come to mind. The Swedes gave us Elektron, Clavia, Propellerhead and their adopted son, Cwejman. Lovely old Swedes. I'd love to live in Goteborg.
Members AstralWurks
You are right Yoozer.. I got Sweden and Switzerland (which does speak German) mixed up. Wasn't really thinking. Normally I'm good about that too. Worst part is, I just watched the Euro's a month ago and should have known better. You must be a fan of the Oranje?? It's a shame they went out like they did, but their first couple of games were nothing short of mindblowing. My family heritage is German so you know who I was rooting for. They didn't quite show up for the Final though. Looked dead on their feet. Spain was phenominal though.

In the case of Spektral Delay, it's kind of a tossup. While Kent Clelland's originally from the US (Pennsylvania), he's been living in Germany for a long time now. ew

Members Yoozer
You must be a fan of the Oranje?? Actually, not at all . I live in a small village. One of the bars in the city center decided that their cramped establishment couldn't deal with all the fans who wanted to watch the game, so they set up a tent with 2 or 3 huge flatscreens to watch the game on. We live nearby - well, you can't even see it from here - but we did hear the noise and the cheers, so I was rather glad they were finished. Members AstralWurks
I've gotta heavily disagree on the best musicians coming from Germany. Sure, there have been some fantastic and pioneering bands from there, but I don't think anyone can touch the amount of great bands to have come from the UK and the US. UK>FloydBeatlesThe WhoStonesRadioheadElton, Depeche Mode, Joy Div/New Order, The Cure, The Smiths, The Jam.. gazillions more. US>Miles, Dizzy, Herbie, Jimmy Smith, Parker, Coltrane and all the jazz and blues greatsHendrixVelvet UndergroundSonic YouthPixiesBeach BoysBeckMinistry and NINFlaming LipsWilcoJohnny Cash

Members Gribs
There really is quite a lot of cool synthesizer technology coming out of Germany. Don't forget about Tone2! There is lots of cool stuff coming from all over, Moog, DSI, Cakewalk in the US, TC Electronic in Denmark, Rob Papen in Holland, Novation and Software Technology (Vaz modular) in England, all the great stuff from the big 3 in Japan, etc.
