Members Herre1980
Hello hello, I'm a bit new to the piano-world, but I play guitar for 15 years. When I wanted to play a song on my guitar, I just googled 'song name+guitar chords' or something and within seconds I found what I needed. Now I was hoping to find as easy as for guitar some sheet music for piano. Are there free resources available on the net? Good websites with downloadable PDF's for example? I don't seem to find any with google... I have to pay for sheet music all the time, and most of the time I have to buy a whole book (which I don't need). Maybe I search the wrong way? The song I'm searching for is a classic:My baby just cares for me, by Nina Simone. Can anybody help me out? Greetz,Herman
Members pogo97
Can't help you on the free stuff, though your guitar music should do if you just need the chords and lyrics (most of us work from chords, not notation). Full piano transcriptions are available from www.musicnotes.com but they cost money--in the range of $5 (My Baby Just Cares for Me is $4.95). There may be others. Members The Pro
Big diff between guitar music and piano music... piano music often includes the melody which is copyrighted. You can publish "leadsheets" on the web with the title, chords and even the lyrics but once you include the melody then somebody needs to pay the appropriate piper. Members Musicale
As was mentioned, Lead sheets are not free. Sheet Music is available often for free but not for specific songs by request. Take the guitar tabs and listen to the song carefully to learn the melody. learn to sing/hum the melody and then fit the chords to the melody. Pick out the melody on the piano, then add the harmony (chords). Pretty much a iterative process. After you do this for several different songs you'll be comfortable with playing it by ear. Learning to write down the melody with proper note duration, rests, measures etc., is schooling. You need a teacher unless you have a lot of time and are quite smart. Otherwise buy some fake books or a Nina Simone songbook and study it. Music comes easy to a few, but by and large it requires a considerable effort. I still have to work at it and I have been playing 45 years. Started serious lessons at about 42 years old, and learned a lot but still need to sit down and work the songs out. Just the way it is for me. I work full time have kids etc. so for me it's not a profession, but a most enjoyable hobby. Sorry for any excessive fatherly advice, Regards,
