Members Acid Hazard
OK, so my original plan was to buy an XS when i get this 2nd x0xb0x built and sold. But, now i'm considering the 888 over the XS. I have plenty of mono synths (all analogue, of course) and i DO have the Xbase 09. But it's rather limited in it's scope, being only 3 note polyphonic. Thoughts? x0xb0x should be done in less than a week. Then i just gotta find someone to buy it =o]
Members ElectricPuppy
Pretty wide-open question. You seem to gravitate towards analog, and you're bemoaning a 3-note limit, so I assume you'd like a poly... Prophet '08? Dunno... looking at your gear list I'd say you've already got a lot of ground covered. What are you looking for? Different sonic palette? Ease of use? New? Used? Keys? No keys? Something inclined more towards noises than melody, or vice versa? Why did you pick the XS vs. the 888 as choices to start with? Hm? Hmmmmmmmm?? Members Acid Hazard
The 3 note limit is for the Xbase 09, i think it's a bit too limiting for a drum machine. I take care of this by using the 707 along side the 09. I know the 888 has a much wider range of sounds as well. I guess what the question comes down to is... drum machine or synth? =o] I know it's personal preference in the end, but i guess i'm just looking for a nudge to either side of the fork. Members ElectricPuppy
Hm. Personally, I think I'd get the XS, given the choice. Looks like a nicely flexible beastie with an immediate interface. Drum machines don't really do terribly much for me. IMHO.
Members idiotboy
Neither. I'd say given what you already have, get a Monomachine. Yeah, not analog. But, I'd bet a cheese sandwich you'd really like it.
Members AfroRouge
I'd buy the 888, then you can sell the Xbase to me. Seriously. I'd buy a 888 in an instant if I had lots of extra cash.

Members idiotboy
what's the main diff between the 999 and the 888? EDIT: never mind. Filter vs no filter, yeah?

Pretty much, as well as a dedicated pitch envelope for the BD and a few other sounds, don't remember what ones. It laso has different sounding snare and hi hats. Members stikygum
The 888 has the metal parameters to make the sounds more metallic. It's a tough call. I love my Mbase, Sunsyn, and FR XS. You're going to have overlap you know. You already have one Jomox drum machine and an SH101 and TB303, not to say the XS is like those, but it can do those sounds in the ballpark for sure. Not sure why you're going with these 2 choices either. I could understand selling the Xbase for the 888. Now that I would do instantly, that's a great swap. I don't know what to tell you honestly. Maybe go with ID's suggestion for the Mono
Members drxcm
Looking at your gearlist, you've got synths pretty well covered. I would say go for the 888, and lose the 09. I love my new 888. Love. It.
Members program_insect
simple, get the 888, sell the 09, save up for a few more months and get the xs too.
Members ShakaCthulu
Jomox. Seems like you've got analog mono covered with XoXBox, MP4, etc. Unless you really like the idea of patching on a semi-modular.
Members Acid Hazard
Yeah, after much thought, i've decided on the 888. I'd just really like an analogue drum machine that's a bit more featured than the 09 is. And it would cut down one more machine for live use. Members stikygum
I think that will be a big step up. The Xbase is nice, but like you say, too limited for anything complex. I've heard some cool stuff from it, but the
Members StompBoxLover
I love my new 888. Love. It. could you maybe post a few beats you made with it? the mp3s on Jomox site sound terribly uninspired, clichee, 20 years too late and 'meh'. thanks! Members AfroRouge
Yeah Jomox does a poor job with their sound samples. There are some pretty good Youtube () videos that show off their stuff much better. But I think when it comes to analog drum machines, the dry sound can be a little dull when taken in isolation, but when lightly processed and mixed with other sounds, suddenly the Truth reveals itself. There's really nothing quite so awesome as analog kicks and snares, with all the parameters at your fingertips. Mmmmmm . . .
