Members Totoro
I have a Yamaha YDP-113 digital piano that my children have been using for several years to learn how to play piano. My oldest son is starting the advanced / master lessons, but the piano only has one pedal input. I am wondering how important the other two pedals are and if I will be holding him back if I don't upgrade to a model with two or three pedals. Should I upgrade or is one pedal enough? Members pogo97
Ultimately, they will need a damper pedal that does half-pedalling (which allows you to partially mute the strings). I don't know if the YDP-113 digital does this. The other two pedals, though, are pretty optional. The left pedal on an upright simply moves the hammers closer to the strings so that the instrument plays quieter; on a grand it shifts the strings so that only one string is hit. It's probably essential eventually, but not like the damper pedal. The middle pedal is always worthless on an upright and pretty specialized on a grand; I wouldn't worry about it.
