Members zoink
Does anyone have any experience buying from SCSI For Samplers? I have a few units that I'd like to set up with SCSI --> CF drives, but wanted to make sure their products actually work.
Members McHale
I have the SCSI to CF adapter in my Triton and worked with them quite a bit. I have 100% faith in them. Drive works great and they are great to deal with. -Mc
Members ricoche
I just ordered the internal CF Card Drive and Kit for my Korg Triton Classic. I haven't received it yet, but the communication has been ok! They come highly recommended but we'll see. So far no worries! UDPATE: I have received a reply from JD the owner at SCSI Samplers and I was not impressed by his canned responses. He has no interest in helping or finding a solution to a problem I am having with his product, but only quickly to ask for the product back. I wonder why. He felt that I was completely wrong with everything I had said. I plan to see this through because I don't give up and will post full photographs and written documentation of my experience. The components sent do not fit properly in the Triton Classic. This is really upsetting. Perhaps others have had a great experience, but thus far I will never do business with SCSIforSamplers again. - Jim
Members zoink
Good to know. Thanks. I'll probably be getting 4 or 5 of the SCSI to CF drives, and didn't want to risk spending that much money if they might be duds. I can't wait to consolidate my ASR-10, Kurzweil, Triton, and Motif sounds.
Members TechEverlasting
I give SCSI For Samplers my highest recommendation. Those CF drives are amazing, I've replaced the internal hard drives in my Kurzweil K2s with them, they are fast, noiseless and seem bullet proof. Even if one of their products doesn't end up working in your application (SCSI implementation on musical instruments is often a major PITA) J.D. Wilson will take it back and/or help you solve the problem. I believe there is someone other than JD selling drives on ebay using the name ""SCSI4Samplers - be careful there. Members McHale
yah, SCSI4Samplers is NOT SCSIforSamplers. It's just some guy trying to cash in on J.D.'s good name and reputation.
Members sbulat
I'm thinking about getting a CF Drive from JD for my Akai S6000. I will let you know how my dealings are with him.
Members brandonm
I am glad I came across this thread. I ordered a CF Drive for my S5000 after seeing this. Got a repsonse same day (yesterday) that it is being shipped out today Priority Mail. A bit pricey, but it should be worth it. Adding a compact flash drive will extend the life of any sampler. Plus I will be able to get rid of that noisy hard drive.
Members braincandy
I've used scsiforsamplers to buy a cd-rom drive for my e6400 Ultra as well as several sample cds. He's very quick in responding to e-mails and shipping things out. He gets top marks from me.
Members burster
Plus I will be able to get rid of that noisy hard drive. But I like my rackmount SCSI cd-rom/hard drive combo and all the noises that come with it.

Members burster
I live for the day that I can free myself from having to use clunky external CD ROM drives. I hear you but, the thing is I have hundreds of Akai and E-MU sample cds. My E5000 and 5080 see these as samples and as presets so converting them to work on a CF would be more of a pain than using my old cd-rom/hard drive combo. I will probably buy a SCSI to CF adapter for newer samples and such but, for now cd-roms are still en vouge around here.

In my case, I too have quite a few samples stored on CD ROM (mostly for the K2500, and some for the Motif and Triton), but I also have my old Ensoniq ASR10 library that's still on floppy disks. It'll be nice to set up the ASR properly with a SCSI drive and get back to using it more often.
Members McHale
With the Internall CF drive, you can still use your external drives. That's what makes it so appealing...
Members brandonm
I never had too many sample CD's. I ripped the ones I use to the S5000 hard drive. Doesn't take up entirely too much space. I'll just have to copy that stuff down to the 16GB CF card. My ext SCSI CD-ROM is a dinosaur. 12x Plextor but it still gets the job done.
Members brandonm
I got my CF drive kit for my S5000, and all I have to say is if you still use an old SCSI sampler, get this kit! Everything went smoothly for most of the part. I ran into a small snag when mounting the floppy drive back in the spare drive spot. If you take the floppy out, there is a chance that the S5/6000 will freeze up if you accidentally select the floppy through the disk utils. JD mentions this in the documentation and recommends leaving the floppy installed for that reason. The problem I ran into was getting the floppy to fit in enough to mount the drive enclosure inside the case. I had to remove the front bezel and plastic eject button from the floppy drive to get it to fit. With those pieces on, the floppy pushed up against the inner front of the S5000 case. I let JD know what I did and he is going to update the documentation.
