Complex Live Performance Controller/Tone/Playback Inquiry

I HAVE EDITED THE OP, so some subsequent posts may not make sense

Conundrum:

1. I desire to record in MIDI in order to record at slower tempos, then adjust to correct tempo, quantize, etc . . . .

2. THe only recording medium I have w/MIDI is garageband (GB) but the MIDI instruments are very limited and i need more tones that real synths have to offer

3. The tones I am looking for are halfway decent reasonable facsimiles of keyboard/synth/organ/piano sounds of Top 40/dance/country/pop/r&B/rock COVER TUNES from the 60's to today, which I know an arranger keyboard can cover

4. The after market expansion plug ins for GB are not as varied or realistic sounding as if I got a real arranger keyboard

5. However , for horns I want to use these modeling software plug ins, but not the ones in the keyboard

http://www.samplemodeling.com/en/products.php

6.. From what i understand that is loadable into AU files which can be converted into MIDI instruments for Garage band, and then I can just use a controller and record to MIDI in GB

7. However, it seems that, while I CAN record the horns in MIDI on GB, I CANNOT use the arranger kybd tones in GB because they CANNOT be MIDI-ized in GB

8. At the same time, I don't see how I can dump the horn sampling software into the arranging keyboard and recrod in MIDI into the arranging keyboard.

In summary, i am looking for a way to track IN MIDI w/ upgraded keyboard/synth/organ/piano sounds of Top 40/dance/country/pop/r&B/rock COVER TUNES from the 60's to today, along with the Horn plug in modeling

Could I get this MIDI OUT plug in for GB

http://www.futureproducers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=69987

Record the horns in GB, then export midi out into the arranger keyboard ?

Or would I be able to use the horns loaded in GB as MIDI to then record in the arranger kybd ?

Wouldn't it be easier to buy a mid-end / high-end arranger keyboard? It would save you a lot of time

Some choices would include

Yamaha PSR-S710

Yamaha PSR-S910

Yamaha Tyros 3 (very expensive though)

Korg PA800

Korg PA500

Roland GW-8

cool, thanks

1. Is it possible to record the intro click on those machines, but omit the click throughout the main piece ?

2.Can those recordings be exported as mp3 or .wav to be converted to mp3?

The arranger answer is the best one... now you need to read up on what they are and what they do to understand why. This will answer your remaining questions.

Understood, but many more questions have came up, and I don't think my search queries on google have answered this NEW problem/

Then from the arranger keyboard, exort as either mp3 or wav to eventually get onto an IPOD ?

You are reaching around the back of your head to scratch your nose.

Drop GB then learn how to use an arranger, which can do everything you need in a much simpler fashion. Google is not your friend in this case unless you use it to find an owner's manual for a good arranger keyboard and then study it.

Forget using horn samples. You are not going to lose your bar gig over whether the horn on the arranger are ever so slightly inferior to the ones in your sample library.

Also, buy/download pro MIDI files and adapt them to your arranger.

This really is the answer.

The rest of your post is acknowledged & understood, and the suggestion/endorsement of an arranger keyboard makes the most sense now. The thing is is that i am NOT doing bar gigs - offering packages to clients - real horns or programmed for the shows

I need the best quality horn sounds as I can get, plus I am looking at using them for production tools as well

So assuming that I prefer to go this way, Am I over complicating things or attempting an impossibility if I load those into GB, go MIDI out into the arranger, then record live into the arranger while using the arranger as the controller as well ?

Sorry dude, I know you're trying to make sense but you're not.

Let me put it this way - the flagship Yamaha Tyros 3 will load samples and do full production arrangements while working around your keyboard skill limits, which is why it was suggested in the first place. And it might do it in real time saving you the tempo-change way you are used to working with now.

Will it load YOUR GB samples? Maybe. I don't know... but I do know that it has it's own horn samples that are good enough for any application. It can and will sync to MIDI sequencers in more ways than you can imagine but that does not mean it'll do EXACTLY what you want simply because you have created a pre-determined workflow in your mind that may or may not exist in reality. In other words, you would do better learning how the machine works first and applying that to your situation instead of the other way around.

If you insist on using Garage Band then we have nothing further to discuss.

thanks man yeah I have brainstormed this down to getting Logic STUDIO 9 w/a controller

A total keyboard tone freak friend of mine told me that he got LS9 and was happier with the many tones available than his motif

This seems to simplify everything. I wanted LOGIC anyway for other things, so this seems to be the easisest choice for me

Sorry for being such a synthesis noob - been stuck on guitar for 2 long
