Members the_big_e
So I'm thinking I need more toys. I don't really want another kb, way to much to setup/carry etc and I just play for fun (even 'gigging' is just for fun). I already have an s70xs and a lucina keytar (easier to carry than the big kb) so I am thinking about some sort of synth module I could hook up to the Lucina. The ol' keytar is ok in the band but it really needs something 'more' to fill out the sound (not helped by me being a crap player LOL). I could hook it up to the kb but that sort of defeats the whole portability issue!Over the years I've often considered a JV 2080 or more lately an XV 5080 but before I jump in for something like that, anyone got any other ideas/thoughts on possible new toys along these lines? Members DJ RAZZ
Well adding a tone module defeats the purpose of the Lucina, unless you plan to use it as a traditional keyboard and not a keytar. I dont know yet.
Members the_big_e
One problem with the Lucina is that you cannot layer the sounds so I was thinking I could use the midi out to drive a module and also take the lucina's regular output out as well to my mixer. Members DJ RAZZ
Do you not want it as keytar any longer because now you are messing with midi and audio. Might as well just buy a keytar controller.
Members girevik
I did a quick Google search and came away with the impression that the only rompler module still in production is the Roland Sound Canvas. The rest are analog or virtual analog. I'm guess deals are to be found in the used market if a rompler is what you really want, since digital synth modules are so out of fashion at the moment. Members girevik
Wait, you have a Yamaha S70SX already? Do you take both the Yamaha and the Lucina out to gigs? If not, I can understand why MIDI-ing the Lucina to the Yamaha would be out of the question.
Members AnotherScott
I did a quick Google search and came away with the impression that the only rompler module still in production is the Roland Sound Canvas. Yamaha Motif Rack XS (mostly same sounds as his S70XS), Korg M3-M. But there's always used ones to look at too... Roland has had so many... I like the Fantom XR, SonicCell, JV-1010/XP-2020 all for different reasons. Also the Kurzweil PC2R. And the old Alesis QSR.
Members girevik
Yamaha Motif Rack XS (mostly same sounds as his S70XS), Korg M3-M. Ah yes, these show up on the 2nd page of Google Shopping. When I googled "synth module" and clicked Shopping I forgot to look for more pages of results.
Members the_big_e
With the s70xs and the keytar it's usually one or the other. I like the keytar, it's fun but the sound needs filling out a bit. Plus I could use module with the main kb as well. I know roland seems to have 'had' many, maybe not so much these days. From what I've heard the 2080 is nice (and expandable I think) and for keytar use at least the 64 polyphony should not be an issue, 5080 seems to be just later and fancier ver of the same thing. Thanks for the input, I may spend some time on ebay digging around, always seems to be a great place to find out about stuff when you are not even quite sure what you are looking for.I just play mostly for fun anyway, open mics, jams etc so none of this is too important! Members DJ RAZZ
OK, I kinda understand what you are doing now. You could consider analog synth modules as well. Don't forget soft synths for anyhing with USB is easier to get going wirelessly.
