hi all,

just wondering if anyone has used one of these harmony wheels? i'm under the impression i can find all the notes for writing cool guitar harmonies by simply rotating circular bits of paper?

also, does anyone know of a bit of pc software that does exactly the same thing, including a wheel on the screen?

many thanks,

tawraste

I think I fooled around with one back in the 70s when I was just starting out -- but I didn't know enough to make any sense of it, I'm afraid.

With regard to web tools, I'm not sure any of them would be a perfect fit for your specific need, but you might want to bookmark www.chorderator.com -- there are a number of free, web-based tools (and some very affordable downloadable software, as well) there created by one of our forum regulars, Eddie Boston.

The Chorderator helps you find the possible guitar inversions/fingerings for just about any chord you can spell into it. The Scalerator shows different scales. And the Chord Designer will allow the user to lay out a chord fingering and get various spellings for it. (That's my fave, as I'm always coming up with little chord thingies and never knowing what they're called and seldom having the patience to work it all out.)

And all of them can be mapped to different typical tunings on different instruments (banjos, mandos, guitars, basses, etc) and will accept completely custom tunings, as well. (It's the beauty of using a mathematical engine to generate the info instead of a big lookup table, which some similar tools do.)
