so, I7m geting a sd-1 tomorrow again. I`ve had it before and sold it, because I didn`t like it. I`ll be modding it to something like a ts-808 and I found this:

boss-sd1mod-050615-2.jpg

It`s an easy mod, but should I include an original chip, the JRC4558 or will I just mess it up with that, and should just use the stock one?

funny, I got it today and it already had the JRC4558D in it, and it`s made in taiwan...:). I liked the sound stock as well, but modded it anyway, just to see how I like it, and I do like it. Maybe I`ll unmod it sometime later. It`s a grea creamy OD, but not quite there yet, I need something more transparent. I see a Klon clone in my future:).

I think no matter what you do, the SD-1 will not be transparent. Its not made for that really. Its a cheap, good sounding OD. I personally use mine over other OD's for its bass-reducing quality, and mid spike. I dont use much gain/level at all. Tightens up an amp nicely

That modpicture the OP has posted is incorrect. It is missing some very important changes.

You can find a correct SD-1 to 808 at http://www.erikhansen.net

Also check out the "Larry Carlton" mod listed at the Indyguitarist forums.

It is extremely transparent.

And the chip currently installed in the Boss SD-1 IS a JRC4558.
