Members blue2blue
I've been saving the last act of the musical version of Oliver (as in Twist) for a couple weeks now. I was watching the '48 David Lean Oliver Twist 'act by act' alongside the musical, but had to finish the Lean movie in the middle of last month when a bunch of English stuff dropped off Netflix streaming. Maybe tonight's the night to let that poor little waif get out of trouble and back home to his newfound benefactor/long lost relative. My favorite part of both movies is Bill Sikes' dog turning on him. It's even more harrowing in the Lean version. (I'm pretty sure the folks who made the early 60s movie musical paid a lot of attention to the Lean flick. There are so many visual echoes.) Anyhow... I know it's kind of sacrilegious to talk about watching movies of Dickens' works -- instead of reading them [which I did back in high school, plowing through much of the best known Dickens] -- on the Great Scribbler's birthday, but I do love those movies... and the musical version is really a delight in many ways.
