Iron Cobra vs. Powershifter... Why does everyone say TAMA! TAMA! TAMA!?

I often see a thread posted about The Iron Cobra vs. The Powershifter Eliminator. How come everyone says The Iron Cobra is better than the Powershifter Eliminator? What are the Powershifter's benefits that compete with the Iron Cobra???

Just curious why everyone is like "Iron Cobra! Iron Cobra!" when it comes to this subject

Iron Cobra Iron Cobra!!!

:D ..people say Iron cobra because thats what most around here seem to like...theres a few reasons for that.

One....Tamas is cheaper. (when it comes to quality gear, this shouldn't matter much though...)

The iron cobras are built well, and as sturdy as tanks.

The iron cobras offer enough adjustments, but not too many. Do you really want me to list all of the adjustments on the Pearl Super-Mega-Oblivorator-Eliminator-Devestator-Power-Shifter-Turbo-Pedal-From-Hell?!?!? Way too many..

If you're just getting started in double bass stuff, all the Pearl would do is confuse you. The first few times you set it up, the iron cobras can be a little tricky. Imagine that, plus 20 different adjustments. All i have to say is "Why?"

If you're looking at the Pearl, just consider this. And be sure to go to a drum store or GC and test them both out. You really don't want to rule it out before you try it...

I just bought the cobras because they're smooth, and can take a massive beating....and offer a good amount of adjustments. Even if the Pearl is as smooth, do you want to pay more for it, and have to worry about a bunch of crazy adjustments, especially if you're new to it?? I'll keep my iron cobras.....

I didn't like the plastic cams on the Pearl, im thinking durabilty wise. I was concern about them cracking and breaking and I don't like the rubber grip on the foot board I like metal so my foot can slide and also it took the people at the store over 30mins and the pedal still wasn't set up for me to try.

-Iron Cobra's are cheaper, biggest piont

-Iron Cobra's are trendy and hip

-Iron Cobra's look cooler.

-Iron Cobra's come with a nice polymere carriing bag in wich u can do all your pedalshit. Very effective for touring.

Technically: The Iron Cobra are more sturdy as the Powershifters. I mean the iron cobras don't have as much leverage between the pedals+joints as the PowerShifters. When you pay 250 dollar (I paid 300 euro) you want zero leverage, the Iron Cobra has.

I like metal so my foot can slide

Indeed! That's very effective for playing fast doubles on 1 pedal. Yesterdag it rained, so my shoes were wet. It was drumming time when I came @ home, so I played and what? Yeh, really fast doubles with less power!!! Because wet rubber on metal = more slide.

But eh! You can remove that rubber thing on the Pearl PowerEliminatorShifterRollingDoublebasspedals. By the way, the Iron Cobra has MASTERFULL fabric settings for spring tension etc. I regret I changed it.

BTW. Isn't there anybody that can play 14 beats/s or more doublebass rolls with an-OTHER pedal than those damn expensive AXIS pedals? Because I think it's really possible without having AXIS pedals... I only get about 11-12BPS, because my feet strengt still's not optimal. I never heard a recording of someone playing fast doublebass parts, I'm always the only one posting mp3's :) And hulkblood :)

Well I think they are both of equal quality. I own a single Pearl Eliminator bass drum pedal which I bought about 4 months ago and I haven't had any problems and I found it very easy to set up. I got it home put in the cam I wanted to use, adjusted the spring tension and beater angle. Then I attatched it to the bass drum and started playing and I haven't made any adjustments or had any trouble with it. I also own an original Iron Cobra pedal and it is durable (bought it in 97') but not as user friendly as the Eliminator is. I'm sure the newer version of the Cobra is much better than the original.

Personally, I think all the top pedals are pretty equal. I think it all comes down to price (that's why I got the Cobra), looks, personal preference for a brand, and perhaps feel which is pretty hard to tweek with in a drumshop without your kit being there.

The only one that really stands out as being really different is the Axis, those are weird...but weird in a good way.

Funny you mention it..I worked out a trade for a new Iron Cobra just this weekend..I was using a Pearl P-100 (bottom o the line) and the Tama is just more durable. It has alot of cool adjustments, and it's smooth as hell. I'm really impressed with the Tama (tama tama tama!)

Smooth Smooth Smooth, most pedals are just smooth. How fast you can play on it depends for 90% on the settings+yourself, not really the pedal. When you adjust {censored}ed up settings to an Axis pedal it wont play like you want. I can play at the same speed with a cheap as Dixon doublebass pedal as with my Tama Iron Cobra.

Technically the Iron Cobra isn't much better than the Pearl EliminatorTurboShifterPowerDoubleBassPedal. It only IS MORE STURDY. And well, even that is just a small detail.

a couple of things:

its truly a prefence thing, when i saw Flo playing with eliminators, i was suprised out the ass, which also brings up another point i was going to make.

-------->it isn't the hardware, its definatley a player issue, i had axis pedals, (the double A long boards) and i still stuck with iron cobras, (except for me having an axis driveshaft and beaters). but the fact remains, its just a player issues, you can do good {censored} with any company's high grade pedal as long as you are good.

and the eliminators have been recalled at least 2 times because of their cheap cams pretty much breaking in mid performance. I have heard horror stories.

and the case, i am really suprised no one else has a hard case for pedals, i think its a damn good idea.

that concludes this broadcast say, mork out...

oh yah, i saw dillinger in baltimore on satuday, holy {censored}, i had the top aerial view, it was a show, the guitarists should have been muted, the rest of the band got in the way of the show.

chris used a 4 piece, what looked like a 22" kick, 8" rack tom, 14" floor tom, 14" tama metal snare.

he used 13" HHs, 2 crashes, 1 ride, and a china, probably 16" or 18"

he had an iron cobras double pedal, BUT the slave was a premier(!?).

i guess you have to do with what works.

Totally agree, still your making a point about Axis, "except for me having an axis driveshaft and beaters" those Axis Driveshafts give minimum friction! By the way, Flo Mounier from Cryptopsy is in the top10 metal drummers, no doubt.

That hardcase is a very good idea indeed, think of touring without one, that sux! :)
