Members Crovax6669
Hi, my friend is going to start platying drums in our band(he usually only plays guitar, but he took some drum classes and is a okay drummer) so we're gonna pitch in to buy him a kit. Our budget is 300 bucks, you guys got any suggestions? We we're thinking of getting him this kit by "Pacific" callede "The pacific EZ kit," is that a good kit? We mostly play Metal(Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Metallica) and were looking for a good kit for that. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks! Members magooly
You're going to need more than $300. you could maybe get a set of used Pearl Export Shells. but for a kit (drums, hardware cymbals) you should try about $700. I wouldn't get the Pacific Ez set. It is sub-entry and is/would be a waste of money. Go used, and check your classifieds. PErhaps you could get your friend a shell pack (drums only) or a nicer set of cymbals (like Paiste 802's).
Members mR.dnA
Go used if you can - if you keep an eye out you can definitely get a decent set (decent meaning not subentry level, something along the lines of a Pearl Export) with a few cymbals for 5-600 bucks. Members woody431
HAHAH Coda, can't really get any {censored}tier than that. What the {censored} are NATO shells? Isn't NATO that peace keeping thing with USA and all their allies? Larger 16 lug bass drums. What were they before, 10 lug? I mean damn, most people on here aren't suckers. CODA drums suck. Members magooly
Nato is like luan. It's cheap, but a bit more "toneful". Still doesn't change the fact that it's poor quality.

Members Worship This
A great started kit for not too much is the pearl rhythm traveler. It sounds great and is very compact. It's really easy to tune, and it comes with everything you need. This goes for around 300 on ebay, and 400 on musicians friend and sam ash. The kit also comes with mesh drum heads so you can silently play the drums when your mother is sleeping. You get a great kit for a great price, and come on - it's pearl. Members wmbreck
I third the recomendation to look at a Mapex V kit. I got a new set with full 5 piece hardware set (including 2 cymbal stands) for $439 at a local shop. Later you can upgrade the heads and have a nice kit that will satisfy for a good while. Members mR.dnA
Dude, you're in Los Angeles - pick up a copy of the Recycler (or www.recycler.com) and look around. You'll get so much more with that money if you go used...
