Members headmasterchaos
Every drummer I've seen who plays traditional grip has been pretty awesome. Looks like he's also into mounting his rack toms 12 on the left and 10 on the right (or whatever sizes they are) like Jimmy Chamberlin and Kenny Aronoff. And again, every drummer I've seen do that has been really good.

Members Pericles
I absolutley HATE trditional grip for drumset because my lack of ability with it, so......any body that can actually pull it off that well is amazing in my book. Plus, IMO I think that he was Steve Vai's best drummer. I've noticed that 2(maybe more) of the best drummers i've ever heard have come out of Australia, lol Virgil DonatiGrant Collins

Members rocklord
Whilst I've only seen vids and heard tracks of Virgil. The best Aussie drummer I've seen live has to be Michael Barker (playing with the John Butler Trio). His single handed roll - and his playing in general - left me gobsmacked! JBT - the finest live band I've ever seen...and I've seen some heavyweights!! Has anyone here heard JBT's stuff? If so, what do you think of them? The 'jam' feel is not to everyones taste but I love them. Great and honest songwriting. Nicky Bomba is also a genius!!!
Members pjb
I remember hearing a virgil donati recording in 1990, a fusion type instrumental called 'cruise missile' or something, from a live album called 'live at the grainstore'. It was the first time I heard the guy. He had already a HUGE reputation around here as he is also from Melbourne. I was blown away..... The guy is a bit of an intense character I've heard. Lives and breathes drums, a real dedicated student of the instrument. btw, while I think JBT is for hippies I can appreciate the talent. Nicky Bomba was also John Butler's drummer at some point I believe. He still gigs around town with his band 'Bomba'...
Members TheCreature
Who the heck is virgil donati and who does he play for?
Members rocklord
http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=virgil+donati&btnG=Google+Search&meta= Takes 2 seconds TheCreature. Nicky Bomba played on JBT's last album, don't think he toured with them but I'm not sure. He's John Butler's Brother-in-Law too. Fair play with the hippy comment...I'm about as far removed from a hippy as you can ever get but you're quite entitled to you're own opinion. The man has serious talent tho.
