Drumsticks...been a while

I'm going to order some drumsticks, and it's been a long time since I have been a drummer...

I can't remember the difference between 5A and 5B.

I used 7A's a lot, but since I am "allowed" to only get one pair, I want some that won't break inside of a week. In marching I used 2B - but those are logs in comparison =/

5A or 5B, what's the difference?

Thanks!

Also if I might add, use wooden tipped ones. Nylon tipped sticks tend to leave marks on your cymbals.

Nylon sounds better (to me)

I've always used nylon in the past, and there's cleaners out there that take it off :)

Besides, only you see the side that gets hit :)

i find the best way for me to clean cymbals is by using the tips of my drumsticks applied in a rhythmic barrage for hours on end. after spending many dollars and developing gargantuan forearms from the elbow grease application, i found that with my eyes shut i couldnt tell the difference between a sparkling clean crash or the same cymbal covered with ten years worth of road grime and sweat. of course if you have a drum tech and you happen to be mad at them, then by all means clean cymbals are a necessity... otherwise, i would just as leave improve my chops with the time spent practicing. but then again i would much rather send you home wondering "how the hell did he do that???" as opposed to " gee, what pretty drums those were." however, all this and two dollars still wont get ya a cup of coffee at starbucks....

Wow!1 I currently play with 2B's.....nylon or wood

i like the weight!!...can still get a good 'whack', without having to exert as much force.......but I've used 5B's, wrapped, with cool pink /white checkered pattern wraps, that don't quite hurt my guitarist, when they 'accidentally' are smacked upside his head, but only by acciedent when he scrapes his headstock across my toms

to add to this thread/question?

Is there a size in between the 5's and the 2's.....I know, I've seen the sticks, that are only classified, or 'labeled'...725's..or was it, 747's??..can't remember......just noticing them in say, Musician's Friend, I don't always get a great descrition...like, length, weight, or any similar comparison.....

anyone use sticks, that are numbered in this fashion?

808s are dope, but kinda overpriced.tr-808.jpg

I used Zildjian sticks for a while - back then you'd get 1 good stick that would outlast 3-4 sticks until you found another good one, then the tip would break off the previous good one and you're going through them again - lol...

Good choice on the 747s! I had one pair that last me for ages. I was gonna say the 5As for a pair that will last more than a week, but the 747s will do that and more.

As a medium hitter, I used the 747s on hard rock and heavier songs and they worked great! Were close to size and weight of a 5A but "beefier".

I use 5As on regular rock, pop, country etc. This past year I have made a point to practice more after just playing as a hobby after years of not having a set. My dexterity is getting better to where now 7As are feeling easier in my hands.

When I first when back to playing, the 5As were the best fit. They were small enough to manage and not be "logs" but bigger than 7As that allowed me to keep a grip on them. 5As is what I found in the stores a lot and what I used. I hadn't seen the 747s in a store's stock in long time, but yes they are an even better choice. Feels like a 5A but lasts a lot longer. Plus it's a ProMark!

It's hard remembering 10 years ago when I "told myself" that promark was a good brand. I had a set of sticks survive marching band, and I LOVED to play loud and proud. My thing was to see how far of an echo I could hear back - lol.

Those were Nylon Tip 2B's - never used anything larger.
