Pork Pie Big Black Steel Snare

I'm not a drummer but I own the kit that we use for our jam sessions (Premier 4-piece, 14" rack, 16" floor, 22" kick). Right now I have a Pork Pie Little Squealer that I bought because I like the crack but now I'm thinking maybe something bigger fuller would be better.

Any opinions on this one?

What type of tone might I expect from brass? Can you still tune it up to get a nice crack out of it? Like I said, I'm not a drummer, but I know what type of snare sound I like ... full but with a penetrating crack. Nothing worse than a snare that sounds like a splat.

I've got a Big Black, and for the price it kills! It's deeper than my Chad Smith and has a lot of sensitivity as well.

Highly recommend!

Do you prefer it to be deeper?

i've heard sometimes it can be too deep, causing too much throatiness. some men just can't handle something very deep.

i've heard alot of Japanese makers have less deep ones. Most of them being only 3 or 4 inches deep.

I've got a Big Black also and It gets the crack you're looking for!!

When a tall white jewish boy has a big black, people take notice!!!!!

You've got to be carefu though. When your laying down your groove with the big black, you can really hurt someone.

Hurt soooo good!

What were we talking about again.... oh yeah

Pork Pie Big Black - Excellent Snare for the $$, I highly recommend... and I am a snare whore!

Plus, since it's fairly inexpensive, you can take your big black out for gigs, and won't mind as much if someone spills some juice or slobbers all over it...
