Members Majoria
I need a good snare as I've been playing the snares that come with my kits for the last 10 years and want something better. I've tried about 20 snares or so and so far two have jumped out a bit towards me, the Chad Smith signature and the Pearl free floater. I'm thinking about getting the free floater as I need a more all purpose snare but I'm looking for personal experience with this drum. Really what I'm after is how the free floater responds to different heads and tunings. I know what it sounds like in the store but some drums don't really change much or how you'd think when going to different heads. My main purpose for this snare will be for my home studio but it may make it out for some live gigs.

Members manoeuver
I believe the Chad Smith is designed to be reminiscent of a Ludwig Black Beauty. It's a well regarded and versatile drum, one I would consider if I was buying another metal snare. The free floaters are sweet because you can swap shells as easily as changing the batter head. I've never been a huge fan of Pearl drums, but I wouldn't hesitate to add either of these to my setup. a supra would be another excellent choice. Members Majoria
I'm not familiar with the Supraphonic. Either I've never played one or it didn't jump out at me. I'm not after the traditional sound of a metal or brass snare. I found one nickel one (Chad Smith) that was pretty decent. I think I'm going with a wood snare but of course want to shop with my ears. Main thing I want to know is how they react to other heads and tunings.
Members MattACaster
A buddy of mine has the free floater and he is in love with it. Although I can see why, it sounds great.
