Members snaresmacker
Hi all, To any and all vintage Slingerland buffs here... What can you tell me about this drum: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=200166466060&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=010 I'm looking for the fat-tone brit rock sound a' la Supraphonic and Black Beauty snares. Would this be similiar? Much thanks, Jesse
Members Carminemw
This drum would be pretty good for that but ther are some questions...he's replaced the snares with non Slingerland parts. And he mentions pitting but does show any pix. I's be skeptical on this deal especially with it already being at 100.00... I think I'd pass if it were me... It's probably a good drum, but I'm skeptical...
Members Force3005
If the snare comes with the original stick saver rims (for rim shots) go for it. I used Fiberskyn batter head and what a fat bright sound with little overtones. If you play rock that has a heavy back beat or funk this one will do very well. Fat and sweet and can cut through with very little or no miking. This looks to be a mid-late 1970 model.
Members snaresmacker
Cool, thanks. Another user posted a question, and in the seller's reply he mentions that the top hoop was replaced w/ a triple-flanged pearl hoop, and the bottom one is original. Hmmm... Members Force3005
Remember the shell, tuning lugs and rods are what counts. The rims are important for the sound of rim shots. Snare wires are replaced all the time with third parties wires. If you are collecting as a collector then I would say don
